That's pretty high all right!  Kind of puts it beyond my experience as just a fellow patient.  But I guess I can ask if you take any other drugs or supplements, in particular turmeric/curcumin.

I have been taking turmeric for joint pain it does not seem to have lowered my BP although it is said that high doses of turmeric can lower blood sugar or blood pressure, Ulbricht said, which means people taking diabetes or blood-pressure medication should use caution while taking turmeric supplements. People preparing for surgery should avoid turmeric supplements because turmeric can increase the risk of bleeding.

I've been taking turmeric for years, especially the more concentrated and standardized curcumin versions.  ANYONE taking turmeric should note that it is an MAOI, a type-2 MAOI which is not quite as hazardous but still needs to be known.  Search on "MAOI cheese" and see something that can send your BP 20, 30, 50+ points higher.  I had not realized this was a hazard until just weeks ago, and in spite of the fact that I tell all doctors I am taking turmeric, and even remind them that turmeric is a "weak" MAOI, none had ever warned me about this "cheese" business.

Glad I didn't start using this, thanks for the warning.

Well actually ... millions of people in the US use turmeric/curcumin for a variety of reasons, and I'm guessing virtually nobody realizes this MAOI connection.  Just how they all missed it is a mystery - but then I missed it too for almost twenty years!

?And on the other hand hundreds of millions of people use huge amounts of turmeric in their food every day, and have for millennia, and it causes few or no problems - I presume because it tends to go with diets that lack the other side, lack the cheese or other tyramine-rich foods.

It's the combination that must be watched for.

    HI Stephie,

?I was already being treated for high BP with an anxiety drug which is known to affect the Central Nervous System which raised it even higher.

?I was consistently about 220 systolic and sometimes up to 255.

GP had no idea what the cause was and I ended up taking more drugs up the maximum level of NICE recommendations.

?I decided to withdraw from them and after investigation found there was risk involved in trying to mix CNS affecting drugs with others which increased my heart's QT interval.

    ?Regards

    Bob

I guess they checked out your thyroid, kidneys and adrenals? There are around 10% of people with HBPwho fall into one of the above categories.

Just standard blood tests, which I guess looked OK.  Though I'm having some reasons now to question this a bit, will be discussing some with doctor at next checkup.

?Always check your meds, read the inserts, and check the Internet, because the doctors do not always do so.  The pharmacy is sometime better at detecting drug interactions.  Maybe in a few years some robot doctors will be helpful too.

I've had readings in excess of 300. Numbers by interartial line was 375 systolic. My diastolic is over 200 at times. 6 meds plus daily IV med brings it down to 240/170.

No eye problems. I'm sitting here measuring it right now. 250/180.

Earlier today l knew my diastolic was over 200. Whenever it goes above 200 my forearm veins become severely distended. Was given 40mg Hydralazine IV. On the upside at least the nurse doesn't miss the vein.

Determing the cause of your high BP should be a priority as I am sure it is. There are a number of difficult to isolate causes to uncontrolled hypertension. Just hope your GP and/or hospital consultant is performing the appropriate tests. Simply cycling through meds to see which ones work is not the best idea!
