Blood Pressure for a 67y old Male

Normal blood pressure is taken as 120/80. But blood pressure often rises with age.
What do you think is acceptable blood pressure for a 67y old male. That is, the pressures whereby treatment is not needed.

I thinks its probably better to think about an ideal rather than a normal BP, as lots of people have said our BP changes all the time depending on what we are doing and your right that our average BP does increase with age. Doctors are guided by the evidence about how BP effects our risk of heart disease, stroke or kidney disease and generally the higher our BP over time, the greater the risk, its a bit like a bookie setting the odds of a horse race. So the average person has a level of risk of developing heart disease over the next 10 years of around 11%, if this persons BP has a systolic pressure of 150 or over it goes up to around 16% and all sorts of other risk factors add to this. Really getting the blood pressure lower than 120/80 does have advantages but the risk reduction when you get below 140/100 probably isnt worth the effort beyond lifestyle changes. This seems to the sort of level most Drs aim for, perhaps with a bit more flexibility in the over 60's.
So the idea of a normal BP, doesn't really help, its all about risk reduction and at 67 a lot of Drs wouldn't worry to much about a systolic pressure in someone of normal weight, who doesn't smoke, etc of up to 150, though some might.

Anon,
Don't we all wish we had a bp like yours. Do absolutely nothing and carry on. You must have good genes, do plenty of exercise or the like, perhaps you are just darn lucky!
Several recent studies have speculated what the ideal bp should be for the older person, the majority view based upon the evidence is that unless there is a specific reason to have the BNP a little higher, what you have is spot on.
