    Hi Jane

When I was first diagnosed although my blood ESR was elevated it was not a dramatic rise.My doctor did say that sometimes your bloods could be normal and you can still have Polymyalgia. He said bloods although a good indicator were not the only sign and a clinician needs to look at the overall picture. I was very lucky my GP put my on steroids after several weeks of pain and uncertainty it was only when it became unbearable not even able to brush my hair, get out of bed without diffiiculty. He said I think you have polymyalgia I was 57 relatively young. With 48 hours on the steroid I was like a new women, he also said that if the steroid did not work then I did not have Polymyalgia.

    Good luck

    Hi Jane and Linda,

My GP was confused when I first went to her with the 'concrete overcoat' symptoms. Like you Linda, I couldn't get out of bed, wash my hair or even hold a cup first thing in the morning. My blood tests were almost normal three weeks running, CRP slightly up, ESR normal. I then spoke to a Rheumatology Consultant privately (I was really desperate by this time). She said I had all the symptoms of PMR and that often the bloods were on catch up and didn't show until later. She told me to take 15mg Prednisolone for three days and if I didn't get any better, I didn't have PMR. If I did get better, then I did have PMR. Within 6 hours I could have joined Cirque du Soleil!! I went on holiday two days later and saw her when I got back. She did loads more tests to rule out anything more sinister and at this point my CRP was up to 36. My ESR has never gone up. After a few difficult weeks I now feel much better and the good days far outweigh the bad ones. I do hope you soon get sorted Jane. Keep us posted and like Linda I wish you good luck.

    Regards Lizzie Ellen
