Blood Test Results...Was Not Expecting This

My doctor called and said my blood test shows a "lupus anticoagulant antibody" which he thinks caused the PE. Doesn't mean I have lupus or will eve get it, but does mean this antibody is causing the clotting. He says it could be temporary, so he will retest me again in April. Should that test be positive, he will refer me to a hematologist who will likely put me on Coumadin.
Has anyone heard of this condition? I'm stunned. Thought it was due to my immobilization. I did a little research and found that sometimes this antibody appears as a reaction to a virus. I had the flu in December, so maybe that's the cause?
My doctor also mentioned that not all my blood tests came back, but he thinks it's usually one cause and this is it.
I'm worried I'll be on coumadin for the rest of my life and it seems tough to manage.
TIA for your advice.

The more I read about this clotting disorder, the more depressed I'm getting. I'm guessing no one here has this blood disorder?

My mom has some kind of clotting issue at first they thought it was lupus but they were wrong. She's had like 3 pes and is on thinners for life. They don't know why. I had 2 small bilateral pes in November 2016. It could be from a medication I was given or from kicking a door 20 times or just a random thing. They don't know how I really got it. My sister had a dvt about 8 months ago. My sister and I have been off of thinners for 8 months and 2 months and thus far ok. I take fish oil and baby asprin. To thin my blood. My sister doesn't take anything. But my sister and I have been tested for every blood clotting disorder known of and we dont have them. So not sure why we really got them. My sister dis have her galbladder out a couple months before dvt. So that might be. Being on blood thinners sucks. I would hate to be on blood thinners for life but at the same time if its gona keep me a live. Ill do it. Just have to be a little more careful is all. Ive been really lucky. And i pray to god i never get abother one but im scared everyday that i will and it sucks. But i do wish you the best and so.e of us do care so come back to talk anytime.

Hi Samantha,
Thanks for the reply...Yeah, it's mysterious why clots appear and the docs do run every test they can to find an underlying cause. In my case, I went to a hematologist and tested negative for all the clotting disorders and Factor V Leiden, the family gene. So, they are calling it an "unprovoked" clot, which means I'll be on a blood thinner indefinitely. Fortunately, it will be Xarelto, not Warfarin. But, as you say, it's better than the scary alternative...Stay well.
