Blood Test to check for vitamin and mineral deficiency

Hi All,

I just wanted to get some clarity on blood test results. I recently been had my blood tested for deficieny in vitamins and minerals on 19.08.2019. My blood test has come back normal. However I started taking a multivitamin tablet from 29.07.2019. How would I know if I was previously deficient in a vitamin or minerals if I have recently started to take my tablet? My doctor says that the blood results only show whats in the blood now and not before.

I have recently started loosing hair in the last month or so, while hair loss is in the family, my hair loss has been quite bad within the last 2 months and i havent had any issues with hair loss before but i was on a rapid weight loss regime in the earlier half of the year and i know i wasnt getting enough vitamins or minerals.

would a blood test show if i had been deficient for months if I have started taking vitamins recently or does this just show your recent condition?

If you have been taking the vitamin tablets for a month before the test you won't be able to know if you were deficient before that if they are normal now. I had a vitamin d deficiency and my hair started falling out and my nails were cracking, but after a few months of taking the vitamin d spray my hair stopped falling out and my nails were much stronger, so your hair loss may stop.
