Blood tests

Hi. Newbie here. I recently had some blood tests done. I went to docs complaining of stomach pain like period pains (which I don't have anymore) and constipation. All of the results came back normal except for iron which is 809. I am being retested in 6 weeks. They have said that those levels might just be normal for me. Is that right? I had hodgkins lymphoma 14 years ago.

My husband is homozygous H63D and he also had Hodgkins Lymphoma.  After chemo and radiation, he no longer loaded iron, and his ferritin remained at about 34.

Haemochromatosis ferritin levels for a woman post menopause should be no more than 300, and a TS% >45 indicates haemochromatosis.  You must be referring to your ferritin level when you say 809, but your TS% is very important for diagnosis.  If it is >45, then a genetic test is warranted.

    Good luck with your results.

Thank you . Yes I did mean ferratin level. What does ts% mean? And would that havd been something that was tested in a blood test. Thanks again.

TS% = transferrin saturation %.  Yes, it should have been included in your bloods tests but it depends on whether your dr asked for the whole Iron Studies or just only what he knows about.

Depends on where you live.  Someone else might be able to help you here.  There are a number of past posts regarding the same question.
