Blood work for Cancer

I recently had the CA 19-9 blood test for cancer. Normal range less than34(U/mL). Mine is a little high at 41. Don't know what this really means. Anybody had experience with this test?

I don't have any experience with this particular test but the pancreas specialist told me to get genetic mutations marker blood test done. Apparently if you have certain mutation markers then you're at risk of developing cancer (later on). If I have the certain mutations then my doctor likes to remove the pancreas and then he makes another organ act as the pancreas. Before I saw the pancreas doctor I didn't know you could live without a pancreas but nowadays they can make a new one! I know that doesn't answer your question but I found the information to ease my mind.

Remember my sister died young of pancreatic cancer. I was reading up on the CA 19-9 blood test and it all said that it should not be used as a diagnostic tool. Other things non cancerous can cause a higher level. Just shows what my GP doesn't know! I've read about people, especially with hereditary pancreas conditions, who had someone in their family die of cancer having their pancreas removed and remade. I'm not sure about that.
