In may last year i had 4 months of horrible soft bowels with LOTS of mucus . This was accompanied with nausea , wind and noisy stomach usually worse first thing in the morning . I had a slightly raised calprotectin level but clear ct colonoscopy and endoscopy .So was not seen by gastroenterologis againshortly aftrr the ct my bowels seemed to pretty much recover for almost 4 months Then this week after a couple of month of stress its all back again Horrible stools full of access mucus brown /bloody horrible cramps and wind. Does this sound like Ibs and does ibs cause this kind if mucus ?

I think you possibly do have IBS but i am really no expert! If you have blood in your stools and a change in bowel habit ask to see your doctor. Only blood tests etc will tell you properly what this is. You could ask to see a dietitian too and if the blood is caused by pushing to get stool out it could be that your bowel needs softening - only your doctor will know. I hope you get some answers let us know!

Hi fionna, Sorry you have to suffer like this.
Well, Lots of mucus and change in bowel habits, quite looks like IBS, And it can be aggravated by stress definitely.
But we don't see blood in the stool in IBS, except you have history of hemorrhoids, Or if constipation and hard stool can cause anal fissures and cause fresh blood in the stool.
Sometimes, What you eat can give color to your stool like beet roots can give red color to the stools.
As you have change in stool color, you should definitely see your physician, And till then you can reduce your stress with some change in food habits and also can continue your IBS medications.
Lots of stress can also lead to gastritis, which can cause indigestion, bloating and stomach aches.
You can also try over the counter ranitine till you get your appointment confirm with your physician.

Oh then It is fine.
Then try to control the ibs flares and look for gastritis, Ranitidine will definitely help, If you want to try.

IBS can cause mucus but it doesn't cause bleeding. Bleeding can happen if you have been straining for a bowel movement and this can cause a fissure or haemorrhoid. IBD can cause bleeding but since you have had a clear colonoscopy, I'm not sure what this could be. Ask your doctor to check you for fissures or haemorrhoids.
