Blotchy bumps on back of hands

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi, I've got lots of raised bumps all over the backs of my hands and a few on my fingers. They first arrived a few years ago and are gradually getting worse. They are usually light in colour but some have gone darker brown in the summer sun. They're raised up and a little rough.

Is this just normal skin ageing? I'm 40 and don't see anyone else my age with them.

Cheers

They certainly look like the sort of spots that are usually called "liver spots" but are nothing to do with your liver. They can start at any age but are usually seen in the over 30s. Do you use sun protection on your hands/arms? They are all caused by exposure to sun.

Just leave them alone but do use a high factor sun cream in future.

As with all skin blemishes if they weep, crust, get larger/darker, spread unevenly, bleed or form sores then see a dermatologist or your own GP.
