Blotchy red rash/irritated skin on penile head (lasted for over 3 moths now)?
Posted , 410 users are following.
Part of the skin on the head of my penis has become slightly red and is causing some pain/irritation.
It first appeared the day after I used a condom so I think I must have had a reaction to the latex or some other substance in the condom.
The tip of the penis became super sensitive and noticeably hurt whenever it touched my underwear.
The skin was and still is noticeably red close to and directly around the meatus. This redness gets worse and bigger after I've come out the shower or masturbated.
An hour or so after ejaculation, I get a slight burn/irritation at the very end of the urethra when I urinate and this can last for a few days before subsiding. This has put me off from masturbating as much now.
This has lasted for about 3 months now with no signs of improvement.
I saw a doctor and was prescribed timodine/hydrocortisone cream and this didn't have much effect and am slightly worried it may just make things worse so have stopped using it for now.
It almost seems as if the redness comes from within the skin rather than on the surface.
I don't think its balanitis as I haven't had that for over 12 years when I was a kid and that was with the usual smegma discharge etc, whereas this is just redness.
I've attached images to show how it looks straight after showering, which is when the redness is at its worst and the contrast between the normal skin colour and the redness can be clearly seen.

I have known for some time now that my issue was some type of dermatitis. The Drs told me this right up front, and the dermatitis also lead to a yeast infection as well, but I have treated mine with several different options, of which it always goes away, but as soon as I stop treatment, it comes back again.
Having said that, I now believe that I have finally figured it out. I stopped drinking coffee and suddenly the issues have cleared. I also noticed some red areas on my face also cleared after I started drinking coffee. These red spots on my face were not that noticeable, but they have been plaguing me about as long as the penis rash. I attributed that to dry skin, but no amount of lotion ever took the 3 or 4 red spots away. They would be brighter some days than others, but they were always there until I stopped drinking coffee.
On my next visit to the Dr., I plan to ask him about this and get his input, but I googled coffee and skin problems, and there is research that suggests coffee does indeed create skin problems for some people. I know this seems like an odd cause, but if I drink coffee, the skin issues occur, when I stop drinking coffee, they clear up. I've been off of coffee for 3 weeks now and my skin on my face and penis have never looked better. I am a huge coffee drinker, so this has been a difficult transition, but I found that drinking hot herbal tea with different flavors is a good substitute for the coffee I am no longer drinking.
If you drink coffee, you might give this a try and see if it helps you as well.

Did you had your coffee with milk? I find out a year ago I am intolerant to lactose. Currently I am experiencing very similar symptoms as the ones described by many posts, but after a couple of weeks using Daktacort, as described by the doctor, I had a red rush again after masturbating. I masturbated before and didn't happened anything, but what was new was the 3-4 coffee with milk (lactosfree) I had during the day.
I decided today I will not touch coffee or milk and see how it goes. I am starting to think that it doesn't help at all and may be creating part of the problem.
After all, before understanding that I was intolerant to lactose, I had pain in my stomach and below. It could be connected.

Hi all, I’m hoping someone can determine my complication or provide any recommendations. Previously I was able to perform in sex without any problems from my penis. However, for the past year I have not been having sex because of a pain I’ve been experiencing. This pain mostly occurs during sex and the pain is related to my foreskin, the foreskin can retract beneath my glans but while erect it will not naturally retract fully back and flush against the shaft. The cause of pain is while during sex the friction tries to pull this skin back but it causes a lot of pain, due to this I cannot penetrate. Has anyone experienced similar or would anyone know what the cause is? Can we attach photos in here? - I’m 19

I'm not a doctor, but your issue is called Phimosis. You need to be careful with this and see a doctor asap. Do not force the foreskin back, because you can create tears and further damage which leads to scar tissue and that only makes the issue even worse.
Honestly, it is probably something minor that can be treated easily, but go see a doctor and let them figure out what is wrong and how to correct it for you before you create a serious problem that might need surgery.

I trust that you’re right that this problem may in fact be Phimosis, perhaps it’s developed into Balanitis. I’ve previously been prescribed Doxycycline and Videne by my local Walk in Centre. I was also prescribed with Naproxen and Trimethopri by a doctor. More recently I had been prescribed with hydrocortisone, none of which I saw any improvements. What are your thoughts on stretching rings? They can be used to fit inside the foreskin and gradually stretch it.

Hey guys,
This seems like an active thread so I'll post here again. I've been dealing with a similar issue for almost a year (please see my post for more details - click on my user name) I've gone to several doctors and nobody has been able to find a solution. I explain it in my post, but I have continual skin irritation and blotchy-ness that gets worse when I masturbate, and I also experience burning and stinging occasionally while I urinate and ejaculate. The irritation and redness gets much worse and is much more noticeable post masturbation and my flow seems narrowed - like the flow is impeded by a stricture. If anyone has any insight or can shed light on a cure they found or what seemed to help them - please message me directly, respond here or respond to the post I made, we can continue the conversation there (my post here is called Penile Rash/Balanitis Not Responding to Treatment)
Thanks

Sounds like you might have a prostate infection or an enlarged prostrate at a minimum. I had a prostrate infection long ago, and I had the same issue, it felt like I had a blockage during ejaculation. This is actually caused by the enlarged prostrate pressing against your urethra tube.
My symptoms went on for a while and then I noticed some blood in my semen, so that's when I went to the doctor and was told I had a prostate infection. I took some antibiotics for it I believe, and then it cleared up. Occasionally I still get some enlargement or swelling of my prostrate and I get that same issue, a feeling of flow restriction.
You can be perfectly healthy and still have an enlarged prostrate according to my doctor, but that may be more age related, although I was not that old when my problem started at around 30. Some STDs can probably cause the same issue too, so you need to rule out STDs for certain if there is any possibility of that being the case.

hey everyone ive read most of the replies on this page and have had similar symptoms as most people here. after masturbation or sex the tip of my penis gets blotchy and it hurts sometimes as well. the tip of my penis has a slight numbness to it as well. ive been experiencing a few other symptoms as well that i have not seen on this thread,so im wondering if maybe someone else has as well. the skin in my groin and my scrotum feels tacky/sticky at all times, it feels like i have a rash or my skin is raw, even though i dont notice anything that would cause that sort of pain there. it hurts to walk or do anything other than sitting. ive been to the urologist where ive been given a cystoscopy, ive tried a few different antibiotics, been tested for all stds, hiv, been given a ct scan, tried all sorts of medications and creams with no success. ive been seeing a dermotologist as well and just havent been able to figure it out. this all started after having protected anal sex with another male (i was doing the penetrating) sorry for the detail... a few days later the tip of my penis began to hurt a lot when rubbing on my underwear. about a week later i began to feel sickish and was passing pure yellow stool that was thick and looked like the liquid that would be in a lava lamp. the area right above my penis (pubic area) burned for a few days like i had put icy hot on it but subsided. then i got this pressure feeling like i needed to pass stool even if i had just gone to the bathroom, like my prostate was inflamed. my anus and intestines just seemed swollen which lead to me developing a fissure with i think i just resolved. when i strain to pass stool i get a semen like discharge out of my penis. the pressure lime feeling in my lower abdomen seems to have faded a little bit but my groin problems are driving me insane. ive had the prostate checked with the cystoscopy and a digital rectal exam and they said everything was normal.

Hi everyone!
I've been on this thread for over a year now and am still having flare ups. I believe I have tried 90% of suggestions on here with no improvements. I finally got my latest dermatologist at the hospital to do a punch biopsy despite her no being able to see anything and being adamant there was nothing going on (same as every other doctor i have seen, despite my numerous iphone pictures of flare ups).
My old boy was mildly flared on the day and as usual i had the constant sub-dermal discomfort I have experienced for 6 years now. Anyway to cut a long story short the biopsy found NO inflammation, which I thought odd, NO sign of any bacteria or any other issue but it did find NON-SPECIFIC HYPERKERATOSES (unusual thickening of the skin). To the dermo that was basically nothing but she said this could be caused by many triggers including previous bacterial infections, medication or contact dermo from allergy etc. Anyway thickened skin can have issues with excretion of bodily oils etc which could be the cause of the redness/irritation. Interesting but frustrating as no idea what caused/is causing this. The dermo didn't seem too bothered about treating it either.
I am having an allergy patch test done in 2 weeks so hopefully that will throw up something. I have had IBD for a while now, and had periods of high medication and poor diet/life style. I am working on all these things and still trying the various suggestions from this thread. Although the flare ups seem less severe they still occur but I'm hoping over time this will slowly fade and maybe the patch test will throw up something unexpected. The biopsy was not very pleasant and as much as I hate to admit it the dermo was right (she didn't want to do it) although the hyperkeratoses wouldn't have been identified I suppose so got to weigh that up with having a lump like scar on my penis head that looks pretty odd.
Good luck everyone!

I am having similar issues for more than a year now. Tested for std/sti etc etc... and everything came back negative. Could this be because of Candida?
Did anyone tried cutting down sugar, healthy diet, juicing, fasting, meditation etc to notice any difference in their symptoms or cured fully?
Are we going to suffer from this nightmare for the rest of our lives
Lets keep this forum active guys and keep sharing your experiences. May be for someone might have tried something and it cured them and we all could also benefit from it. I have been to several doctors in the past but no luck.
Thank you

I can fully retract my foreskin while flaccid. I can partially retract my foreskin while erect, what is the cause of this?
For the past year I have been unable to have any sex, I’ve had other sexual encounters with my girlfriend which would typically lead up to sex, some of which can be discomforting at times, but very pleasing for the most part. My problem comes into place when wanting sex. While erect, if I retract my foreskin I can just about get it over the head of my penis, once I’ve achieved this I cannot get the foreskin to push down any further. From having sex in the past I know that my foreskin should go down further and rest flush against the shaft of my penis, but now my foreskin sits beneath the head of my penis and causes pain if I attempt to pull it down any further. So while attempting sex, pain occurs because the penis entering the vagina tries to push my foreskin down further, but as previously mentioned, my foreskin won’t go down further without the pain!
I’ve visited my doctor and he’s requested I have an ultrasound scan, I don’t trust that this will determine my problem. Can anyone help me?!
