Blurry vision

Hi All,

My grandfather has cataract and a blurry (cloudy) vision. However, few minutes in the morning (when he wakes up) he can see everything without a blurry vision. Few minutes after, the blurry vision begins and last the rest of the day. Has anybody heard about that and if you can do something ?

Not sure about the clear vision and then blurry vision. When I had a cataract it was blurry all the time and I would see a double blurry image as well. I did not notice it until after I had a good eye to compare to, but the colours were off too. Instead of bright white the colour was yellow tinted.

As far as I know the only solution for a cataract is cataract surgery and replacement with an intraocular lens, or IOL. A cataract in one eye or both is pretty common as we get older. It is a fairly minor surgery, but depending on your healthcare system and your country, it can be a long wait to get one done. If that is the case, then it is best to get in the line up for surgery as soon as you can. The cataract will only get worse with time.

Further to what SueAn has said, I thought a bit more about this over the past day. Vision that is clear and then fuzzy would seem hard to attribute to a cataract only. It would be a very good idea to do further checking as to what all the issues may be, before jumping right into a cataract surgery. Planning for the cataract surgery is still a good idea though. They don't go away by themselves.

Encourage your grandfather to see his optometrist for s diagnosis. If he has s cataract they will confirm it and if affecting his vision they will refer him to cataract surgeon for further discussion on options.

Perhaps he has dry eyes and artificial tears would help. Still have him get a full exam to see shat is going on.
