BMI

Can I be cheeky and ask people who have had a band fitted did you have a BMI of 40 or over. All the info I'm reading says you have to have a BMI of 40 or over but although I've a lot of weight to loose (8 stones just to be at top of healthy range) I'm under that 40 mark! Just wondered how strict those rules are?? Thanks

    Hey MrsHumphrey!

I am literally waiting in my hospital bed waiting to be taken in for a band and I'm no where near 40bmi, I believe I am actually 32bmi. I think historically the BMI had to he higher as it was seen as a risky operation so it needed to warrant the risk, but now with advancements it's much safer there fore they can lower the bar

My BMI was just over 40!

I'm not sure if it's still the case but on the Internet it says if your BMI is over 30/35 and you have a medical problem which would be helped by weight loss then you can have a band. I think this may be to get it on the nhs however xx

I think privately they are more lenient with your bmi but obviously would only do it if they thought if was necessary! X
