Body does not adapt to my change in sleep pattern?!

Hi!

I am 24 year old and male. I was never really so much of an early riser. I used to sleep until 9 or even until 11 or 12 o' clock.

Recently I got really sick of this bad sleep pattern. Half of my day past before I even woke up!

That is why I started to change my sleep pattern. Since February 1st, I always (!! also on weekends) woke up at 6 am. From experience I know that I need around 7,5 hours of sleep to feel like I got enough sleep. So I always went to bed around 10:30 pm which then would give me a good night rest of 7,5 hours when I wake up at 6 am. I also did not cosume any kind of caffeine. (I wasn't a regular coffee drinker before any ways).

And waking up at 6 am was actually quite a nice feeling and I really liked it. There were drawbacks however: During the day I always felt quite exhausted and tired and sometimes I litreally just passed out and needed to sleep for 10 minutes with my head on the table.

I do this now for already 20 days in a row, and thought that should be enough time for my body to adapt. However it still did not get better sad

Please let me know what you think. Does it take even more time for my body to adapt to this new sleep pattern?! I really want to keep this routine, but I wish I would feel more rested during day.

thanks a lot!

Chrisss, Perhaps the reason you were sleeping in was because that was your natural rhythm. For instance, I have always been a bit of a night owl and always feel more awake and alert in the late pm/early am no matter how little sleep I have had. Others might disagree, but I don't think that you can change your body clock just like that.

You are clearly enjoying some aspects of early rising. Is it because you are being more creative/productive - using your time in a more rewarding way. Perhaps you should reflect on how you used your time when rising late.

    Good luck

Thank you for your answer TapMan.

Yeah I was also thinking if the reason is my natural rhythm.

But that must then be connected to sunrise/sunset?

Because if I would fly to Thailand e.g. then I would have to get up 8 hours earlier than normally , and after one week my body adapted just fine.

and lets say if i used to get up at 9 am on average and now try to get up at 6 am, then basically it is just 3 hours earlier. Much less compared to the 8 hours. But still somehow much more difficult.

I still hope I can make my body adjust to 6 am. Maybe I have to keep trying.

Any further input is very much appreciated.

    thanks!

Chrisss, to be honest with you, when I was moving back and forth between Europe and the United States regularly on business it would almost literally destroy me. My body could take upwards of three months before it would get some semblance of normalcy again. Three weeks may seem like an eternity (especially if you are not able to sleep how you want) but you may want to try some natural remedies to help yourself sleep when YOU want to. Hope that helps.
