I haven't used one but I think it would be a great thing to have. Particularly because not crossing your legs is a common restriction so sleeping on your side with one end of the body pillow between your legs makes crossing your legs much harder.

No. You shouldn't cross your legs, and you would do that without something to keep them apart. And obviously sleeping on an operated area would hurt. But I had months to try out all options thanks to the osteonecrosis, because I can't sleep on my back at all. Sleeping on your non- operated side is fine provided the pillow totally prevents crossing the legs. I tried the ordinary body pillows and they worked fine for a time, but I found them to soft and the filling tends to move around so they are not as effective at keeping your legs apart. There are also some foam block things that you strap around the legs - I never tried those because I couldn't see I would sleep with them. It took an awful lot of time to find a perfect solution for me.

I've been using a body pillow since my pregnancy in 1992. I believe part of the reason I didn't see my symptoms earlier is due to using it and keeping my hips and legs from collapsing while attempting to sleep. My surgeons schedule just opened for2017 and it looks like I'm slated for early February for a LTHR.

Yes they are great to stuff and prop in different area to get comfortable . I also use many small pillows for additional propping . It's really tricky finding that comfort zone for a few weeks. I had my last THR 5 years ago still use pillows. Remember the restrictions if any are still in place by your surgeon.
Heeling blessings sent sent your way. And many more good days ahead. Soon you will be dancing in the streets. It just takes time for the bones muscles heel. It seems like forever sometimes but as time goes by your life will be comfortable and without pain.
peace & heeling

Yes I have many various pillows on my bed . My husband means about them and kicks them off in the night and by morning the floor is scattered but I find them comfortable and useful . I make a little pyramid at the end of the bed every day so that if the hip is bad I have s ready made resting place that is a relief to lift the acheing leg onto . The cats love them too 😡😡😡!!

Great plan, kitties are there for you too!
i say whatever works. Getting confortable after THR is a big issue for many.
someone a few years ago placed foam under the mattress cover to keep leg raised. That way it didn't end up on the floor in the a.m.
happy dreams cowboy style.LOL
How many any different ideas can we hippies come up with?
