Body pillow

Hi all, Just wondering if any of you have used a full body pillow after THR? The big u shaped ones that are used during pregnancy or for back problems. If so which type would you recommend? Or is there anything else you recommend?

Thanks

Ann

Ann, I purchased a body pillow pre-surgery, but I had to return it. It was so bulky that it made moving in bed very awkward. I could not imagine how that would work after surgery. I look forward to reading replies on this topic.

Hi Anniepaint, I can't say I  have used a body pillow. It I'm sure I would be very comfortable. I actually used to use just a pillow between my knees which was pretty good and if I needed to turn to a different position I would just use it to support whichever part of my legs needed support. That worked well for for me. Good luck.  Suzie58

I found that a couch cushion, doubled up, very tight in its cover, and then in a pillowcase so i could change it as I liked, and also had the length of the pillow case to adjust when and needed worked very well for me, used for months post left hip surgery, right hip didn;t seem to need it so much.  A blessing when you want to sleep on your side, you shove between you knees and it keeps you hips in the right postion and possible dislocation.

    Hi Annie,

I love the body pillow - always had one , even before any hip problems --

When I lived in Los Angeles, I bought mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond or any other department store where they sell bed linens - they cost arounf $20.00

However, here in the Netherlands there not that common - I looked on the internet and they sell them at Amazon or speciality stores and are much more expensive -

I bought one (about 40.00 euros) but unfortunately it is no full body ,,,

One of the reason why I like it is that it is full body, which makes you be able to "hug" it and give some upper body support ... the one I have unfortunately does not come all the way up but, for me, is more comfortable than just a pillow between my knees ...

so my take is to get one ...

when is your surgery scheduled for?

    big warm hug

Hi Renee, my surgery will be a week on Thursday (17th Aug) all being well. Going for pre op check up and joint school today. Thanks for the advice on the body pillow. I see there are different lengths available so I'll go for the longest and give it a try I think.

      Cheers

Hi.  I bought one from John Lewis and found it really good for sitting up in bed just after my operation, under my legs when lying down to stop back pain and between my legs when I started lying on my side to sleep.
