Has anyone experienced or heard of your body rejecting a knee replacement? They are testing me for this and I'll have the results tomorrow.

So sorry to hear this, it might almost have been better to have to have had another knee replacement. Hope you get the treatment you require asap. Try to keep positive. x

Don't know about rejection, but I am 12 weeks post op and still not driving and struggling with stairs, there is a hard ridge on left of the knee which is higher than the other side, stiffness is horrendous in the morning, have to force my knee to bend to get out of bed, not too bad once I get moving, seeing my surgeon again end of month, although last time he didn't even bother to look at my knee, still doing the exercises.

Dorothy - make an appointment & go back. It was about 12 weeks, when I started realising I had more problems than anyone else. I couldn't drive either (although I do now, but always with pain) I still can't do stairs (almost 8 months post op.) - I kept thinking it was me - but my physio badgered me to make a fuss. I've had scans/x-rays & consultations since - & sadly mine is "off to the right"! I am on the waiting list for a revision with a new surgeon. You may well be totally fine - but the longer you worry, the worse it all seems. At least I know what to expect & whenever I have it revised, the light will be at the end of that tunnel!

I tried to tell the surgeon at last appointed but he just said nothing I said was abnormal and didn't even look at my knee, not sure if I could face another op as  I was in for 14 days last time, had cellulitis and pheabitis, which I was sent out with, then 9 days later back in again with a blood clot on my lung now on blood thinning for 6 months and maybe for life, so more surgery is a risk, although ending up in a wheelchair isn't a walk in the park either.

I had one it of luck.it was left knee so driving never problem. i know whoever read my post i am expert on post op. I can say under normal healing if u did the right rehab bending leg should be back to normal range, yes with pain ,that pain will take several months to be normal... For me normal has not been in my book as yet.

stiffness and severe swelling is sign to see DR. could be water under knee but here in Florida they will not go with any drainage instuments because that little opening might cause infection. i will get back on furhter information and I COULD WRITE THE BOOK.

NEED TO GO GET GRANCHILD TO BABYSIT.

    BUT I WILL BE BACK.

I WOULD HOPE DOROTHY SEE REPLY WANT TO SHARE ALL I CAN

Many thanks, at least I know what to expect, my car is manual so I need my left leg, hoping to try this week, doing all my bending and stretching exercises, but still very stiff and painful, I'm 75 so maybe it takes longer with age !!!

Maybe a little but it's still the body doing its thing in it's own time. I had my 1st one at 66.....the revision at 75 and now @ 78 getting ready to have the 3rd knee inserted a week from Thursday. This will next be 5th rehab for the leg and I can't tell age has much to do with it. Of course I have no idea what would have happened if it had been 25 years ago. I can tell you I think the patience we gather in the aging process does make it a little easier for us. The younger people are still in the mindset of eating the elephant in one big bite.

feel so much better for that, most things are put down to age, maybe I'm being a bit too impatient, annoys me when I hear others driving at 6 weeks post op, but never mind, I'll get there as you say in my own time, or my knees own time.

Dorothy, you will hear all kinds of stories......people playing golf in a month, taking long multi Mile walks, down on their knees gardening and on and on. The truth be known, most of these are stories told by someone's 3rd cousin who lived next door to a guy who had a friend in another part of the world that read it in a tabloid journal. Just not fact. Its your body and you just have to trust what it's telling you. None of us are infallable including the guy that cut you leg off and reattached it. Having gone through this multiple times and having to have another prosthesis inserted/installed next week I can tell you the basic ingredients of pain meds before excercising, excercise, ice, elevate rest at every possible opportunity, hydration (drink water like you've never drank it before) and rest again. Let the body heal without adding to the trauma. All of these extras, oils, massage etc are great but without the basics it won't happen near as quickly

Hope all goes well for you next week, in my ward people were in and out in 4 days, I was one of the unlucky ones, had cellulitis in leg and pheabitis in arm, so was in for 14 days, 9 days after discharge rushed back in ith a blood lot on my right lung. So when they say 9 out of 10 are happy with it, I was the 1 that wasn't, couldn't go through it again, you have my highest respect, good luck.

If this needs to be changed

I had never heard of rejection, but it is a foreign body isn't it, so reasonable to assume your body can reject it, don't think I could go through it again, bad enough the first time, hope thi gs go well for you, my recovery is slow but steady, hoping to try driving this week, car is manual so I need my left leg, good excersise, take care.

Hi Gail......I don't know what to say, this is terrible.

I just hope that you have some strong family support to help you through and we are here, we can sympathise and give you encouragement and support you to a certain extent so that you don't feel all alone.

I really, really hope with all my heart that the MRI results are favourable.

my family were my rock, I am widowed, as you say they have their own families, but they did a rota, so I had help, but when you are in pain you feel so alone as no one can relate to it unless they have been through it, which is why this forum is so good, each knows what the other is going through at different stages, do hope things go well for you, take care, hugs from across the pond, xxxxxx
