BodyFocus yes or no. Running out of things to try

Posted , 6 users are following.

After 3 years 2 scans and 2 colonoscopy's I have finally been diagnosed with severe diverticulosis. I have put on 3st and suffered bloating and lower left lower stomach and back pain. Most days I look as my son says like I have a beach ball up my jumper. I have investigated the best ways to relieve this which includes many different food options, organic foods (expensive but maybe worth it), more exercise, so I've gone on cycle2work scheme for electric bike as can't do hills as a bloated 59 year old and introducing more pre and prebiotics which I've just ordered from Bodyfocus. Has anyone tried these or can you give me any advice you have that has worked. I want to get this under control before my 60th in November.

I am not after a super model body just a pain free existence. I would love to do gardening again and be pain free when walking the dog.

Thank you.

Probiotics are essential for good gut health so it's wise to try and get a variety of types from capsules and various foods (e.g. live yoghurt, kefir, sauerkraut etc.) Prebiotics are also essential as they help the probiotics do their stuff. There are a few books available which describe in great detail what goes on in the mysterious lengths of the gut, I can't name names but they're easy to find by looking for clever guts or something like that. They tell you what to eat and what to avoid - I don't think it necessarily has to be organic so long as you avoid foods loaded with chemicals, additives, preservatives and flavourings.

It sounds like you've been having problems for a while so it may take a while to sort it out. Have you been on any meds over the last few years (either for gut trouble or something else)? Gut meds such as Omeprazole mess with the natural processes in there while antibiotics clear your gut of the good bacteria -your 'flora' that do your digesting for you (sometimes affecting it for a year or more!). You may have to work at restoring your natural balance if meds have had a part to play.

Keep a food diary so you can spot if something triggers problems and try to reduce any stress/anxiety. The electric bike sounds fun and remember - we are what we eat!

      Miriam,

Can you explain a little more about the problems with omeperazole?

I've been on 40 mg for the last 6 years or so. I had a resection last August

and still struggling with with lower left quadrant inflammations.

I am currently taking a gut med called "Restore" that seems to have helped

with my sore joints immensely but not sure if it's the right answer.

My diet is awfully bland and small portions as always. I'd like to ween off the omeperazole

soon. Just wondering if it's contributing to my not feeling much better. There are no diverticula currently after the surgery but it still feels quite bloaty and discomfort after almost a year after the surgery.

      Cheers,

      Daniel
