bombshell

I was diagnosed with anaemia in feb this year and had to wait 14 weeks to see a haematologist who referred me for a liver scan which I had 2 weeks ago. I was also out on the 2 week cancer pathway for a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy. I was informed that my bowel was clear but I have a hiatus hernia, gastritis and they had taken 4 biopsies for Hpylory and coeliac. I rang my gp to ask for any other results and was told that the gp had read them but there was no comment. I had made a non-urgent appointment to see the gp about previous blood results about 4 weeks ago which was today.
The gp read out the letter mentioning cirrhosis just in passing. When I said "did you say cirrhosis?" She was shocked that no one had told me.
To say that it came as a bombshell is an understatement.Any advice would be welcome.
I had two blood transfusions in 1990 which is when they were still using infected blood

The gp was going through my blood results and then reading the reports from the liver scan and endosopy report. Unfortunately she had obviously only skim read them and told me that I also had varices. I came out of the surgery in tears but once I was home I started to wonder why they hadn't mentioned varices on the gastroscopy report. I rang the surgery and said I wanted an urgent private referral to see a heptologist. The lead doctor in the practice rang me and after discussion we realised that she (the gp who had dropped the bombshell) had only read that the haematologist suspected I had varices. The liver scan confirmed cirrhosis but I have had hundreds of spider naevie for well over a year which no one was interested in. I'm waiting now for an appointment with a heptologist and also a gastroenterologist. I had at least 8 different blood tests yesterday but I really need to know if I do have hep c.
