Has anyone had infusions of zoledronate have they improved your bone density and did you have any side effects. Hoe long do you need them for.

I can't answer all your questions as I have refused to take any bisphosphonates as my bone density originally was fine - and in fact has remained fine for over 11 years of being on pred, The local osteoporosis specialist expressed amazement at my dexascan readings from 3 weeks ago - I had expected her to want to start me on something but she didn't. I took calcium and vit D religiously until last year when the calcium supplements started causing bladder problems. Since then I have upped my vit D a bit and been more conscientious about calcium in diet. Seems to have worked so far.

Once you are on the infusion they usually continue as long as you are on corticosteroids but the doctors will presumably review the situation. Most bisphosphonates don't improve bone density - just stop it getting worse although you can improve bone density with targeted diet and lifestyle measures with exercise.

Anhaga on this forum has done so very successfully.
