Bone Disorders- Osteoporosis

I am 86 years old male. As a result of Dexa Test, I have been diagnosed Osteoporosis. My T scores are as under:

L1-L4: (spine) is Ok. T score is -0.9 which is normal

Neck : T score is -2.6, for which Osteoporosis

I consulted two Specialist Docs as under:

  1. Orthopaedics Surgeon who advised medicine DRATE (Alendronate Sodium) 70 mg Tablet to be taken once every week.
  2. Physician & Rheumatologist who suggested Bonviva Tablet 150 mg once per month.

Now I have an impression that any of the above medicines may do more harm to the person of advanced age like me than good. Thus can I have the views of those who have used such medicines or know about these:

a. Gravity of my problem? As one Doc said not too serious at this stage.

b.Can the above medicines be harmful or not for elderly person like me? Of course every medicine has side effects.

c. out of above medicines, which may be more appropriate?

d. Any other comments by the users? Results of taking such medicines? How much time required to see the results of such medicines?

Thanking you
