Bone lip after bunion surgery

Posted , 4 users are following.

As the swelling has gone down significantly I've noticed a bump underneath the skin on fused big toe. At first I thought it was a screw but it's well below any incision, my podiatrist thinks it's a bone lip & didn't seem concerned but although it's not sore I feel it's tight & pulling when I'm walking ! Has anyone else experienced this ? And should I be concerned ? Not due back to see surgeon for another 3 weeks.

Hi. I have not heard of that but if your podiatrist is not concerned I would try not to worry. I had a hard lump at the end of the scar that has gone with firm massaging. Have you looked it up on the Internet?

I have been looking at sites which tell you how the bone mends.  In the first 5 days coagulation is happening around the cut bone, and this blood forms the beginning of the next phase reparative, which is where collagen is made from the blood and this is soft tissue, this is to about 6 weeks after op.  The final stage is remodelling which can go up to 100 days after op.  Where the bone grows back to normal.  After this its maintenance.   So maybe your lump is bone that has not been remodelled yet. Below is a site I looked at to fond this info.

I too have experienced this in the last few days. It feels like a lump of skin although it is smooth. I thought it might be caused by pressure of trainers. Would be interested if anyone else has found this
