Bone pain

hi, I have severe osteoporosis and for years I've been lead to believe that this is a 'silent' disease. However, my blood work has just shown that I have a very low vitamin D problem and upon researching this, I've found that this can cause something called osteomalacia. This can cause bone pain (which I have). I'm now on a high weekly dosage of vitD. Anyone else have this pain?

Do you take anything else apart from vitamin D for your osteoporosis? Most people seem to be short of vitamin D. Even my husband has to take vitamin D. The sun does not seem to be protecting people any more from having this problem.

I have a pain in the sacroiliac when I sit on a hard, straight chair, which is sharp and very debilitating.

Do you know your t scores?

I am in Australia, where are you?

So sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with osteomalacia in addition to osteoporosis.  As you say oseomalacia can be the result of lack of sufficient Vitamin D

:Have you ever had a test for celiac disease? Celiac disease can damage the lining of your intestines and prevent the absorption of many important nutrients like vitamin D. Might be worth while asking your GP for a check???

Hi Mzdv, It's good that they have found your 'very low vit.  D. That is now being corrected. Are you on any other meds. for your osteoporosis (OP), if so, what are they and how are you finding them? Was your OP found by accident or did you have a fracture and then get a scan? Unfortunately, I don't know anything about osteomalacia. Keep in touch, J

Hi, and thanks for your relies. I'm about to start on Forsteo (Forteo in USA) this week and I'm just getting over my third fracture. I've been on other 'bone building' drugs for years and still my Bd's have decreased.  I've taken calcium/vitD supplements prescribed by my GP for years and have now been put on a high weekly dose of vitD.  Will it ever end?! Lol

Hi, are you living in Ireland?  (Thinking so because of you referring to the drug as Forsteo . . ).
