Bone spur

I have a bone spur on my big toe joint caused by injuries due to a drunk driver hitting me. I am also recovering from a broken ankle (same foot) with a plate and 6 screws. I’ve seen the dr about my bone spur but not recently. Anyhow it’s hurting me really bad from my last pt pool session so I’m going to call . I was wondering if anyone has any advice. Should I get it shaved off, will this help with pain, do cortisone shots work, etc? Thanks for any help.

there are homeopathic remedies, I have heard, for spurs (I don't know which one, I know a naturopath who has helped dissolve them in MI).  I have used specific essential oils to help with minor pain, but still have it minor; it hasn't grown in years, & doesn't hurt anymore.

    Hi Diane,

?I had post traumatic injury to my left toe joint and had the surgery for arthritis, bone spurs and a cracked cartilage. It is called a Cheilectomy. Look it up.

Pretty simple surgery. It won't heal with out the surgery I do believe. They will have you get a steroid shot first , and wear something in your shoe. I had to. But 2 months later, I went back in to my specialist and he told me I had to have the Cheilectomy.

They will put you under / you don't want to be awake for it.

about 15 mins to 30 tops/ recovery about 10 mins or so. Go home in a splint for 2 weeks/ and a shoe.... then just a wrap.. painful but not awful recovery... have help the first couple of days.

    Good luck!

Thanks Rose! I already spoke to my dr a few months ago when he diagnosed the spur and he did mention  filing it down if I didn’t want the shot. I see my surgeon for my ankle on the 17th and I’m going to see if the 2 of them can do the surgeries together. I have to get some of my hardware taken out and the 2 of them work together.  At least I want the hardware out. It’s causing a lot of pain and limiting my progression. But I’m grateful to be alive!!!! The young man who hit me had a .284 blood alcohol level. 😇😇😇 were with me for sure! Thanks again for your input! I really appreciate it!
