Bones to unstable...

I have bone on bone. The radius and the ulna near the wrist is bone on bone with bone spurs. She said the carpal bones move and shift and become instable. So... She said I cannot have a wrist replacement because of the unstability. I am going to another doctor for a second opinion - her recommendation - on monday to see what he says. If she fuses the radius and ulna bones then the carpal bones become unstable. I googled. She said I have unique damage.

I looked at her in the eyes and bluntly said what I go through with this is very painful to please not leave me this way... She is also checking with fellow specialists and is calling me back.

When I googled this site came up and thought I might post to see if anyone has gone through this type of hand damage? Same on both sides. She said my wrists are slightly starting to deform or as she put it, Bow...

Just wondering what fusions or fixes others have had. Or what their specialist may have told them about this type of thing...

Bone on bone is the final stage which is why it's important to not leave it too long.

ask if they can do a debridement on the bone spurs. I have just had this done on my finger and it's killed the awful pain I was suffering. My surgeon did it to give me pain relief. I will need a joint replacement in the near future.

all the surgeons in your area put up their bios and research areas. Read them and pick one for your second opinion who you think can offer hope.

e.g. My surgeon who has done several surgeries on me now is one of the best as he teaches other surgeons but he prefers to use tried and tested methods rather than new ones, but he was willing to do the debridement because he has been seeing success for pain relief but very few surgeons offer it.

I have bone on bone in one ankle.  An accident killed the cartilage entirely.  I had an arthroscopy to do a debridement and the improvement was absolutely immense.  I could hardly walk before and had no dorsaflex in the joint, now I can wear ordinary shoes and although it hurts if I've walked too far etc., it's so much less than before when it hurt all day and all night.  My thumbs are arthritic too and only heat pads help them.

@wknight - I did. She said if she went in and fixed the spurs and cleaned up that bone on bone area then the little bones/carpal bones would become unstable.
