Boric Acid Cure and What Worked For Me!

This is a long post, but stick with me!!
For anyone who may be new to BV, I’m terribly sorry that this is happening to you. BV is such an awful, embarrassing, overwhelming thing to have, but please know that there are ways to get rid of it and you are definitely not alone. That being said what works for one person may not work for another and I wish you all the best in finding what works for you.
I’ve had BV for about a year and a half and I definitely got it after unprotected sex for the first time with a new partner (def don’t believe the men can’t cause it thing). Antibiotics and creams only worked to lessen the symptoms but didn’t really cure it. I did some research and realized that the antibiotics were killing off all of the bacteria including the ones I needed and multiple courses were probably making the bad bacteria resistant and even harder to kill. I needed a way to kill off the bad bacteria and allow the good bacteria to repopulate fast and I (through the power of google) realized that the best way was probably something natural. After some failed attempts with other cures, I discovered boric acid suppositories. I tried Boric acid suppositories (600mg) from Amazon ($14 CAD) to kill off all the bad bacteria. In hindsight, it’s probably a better idea to get these from a compounding pharmacy like another member here mentioned to me. I used two the first time and one the next day which was when I realized I was bleeding more than I probably should be. It was bleeding like the first few days of your period, but with blood that was clearly not period blood. I know this sounds really scary, but hear me out (it turns out fine). It didn’t hurt and I had read about other women who had also bled so I just assumed I had used too much too often and hoped it would just run its course. Our bodies bleed this much blood monthly so I wasn’t too worried yet and just stayed as hydrated and healthy as I could. I mixed unrefined organic coconut oil and some drops of tea tree oil ( both of which I read had anti-fungal and antibacterial properties) and soaked a tampon and inserted that for 2 hours sometimes once and sometimes twice (sometimes I skipped this step) a day which really helped soothe since the suppositories do make you dry and a little sore.
I noticed the day after I first took the boric acid that the fishy smell was gone and the discharge was very watery. Then the bleeding started as I mentioned above. On the fifth day, it lessened considerably to just spotting and turned into a brown, rust-colored discharge that smelled, but definitely not fishy (thank god). More like an old dried blood kind of way. I also noticed some tiny pieces of a thick, mucus or film (tmi I knowww) in the discharge too. I think this was just the vagina cleaning itself out. By the end of the day, the bleeding had lessened, but there was a slight fishy smell. This is gonna sound stupid that I tried boric acid again after all that bleeding, but I was desperate for this to work so I used another one figuring it’s only one and what’s the worst that could happen (amazing logic am I right?!).
I decided to use the suppository only at night. The next day there still wasn’t any new blood coming out, the faint fishy smell was gone and there was still some small amounts of the brown discharge which faded by around mid-afternoon. Eventually, the rest was the normal watery discharge you get after using boric acid suppositories. ( I definitely used too much in those first 24 hours and irritated tf out of my vagina to cause all that bleeding). I continued to use the Boric acid for another day bringing the total number of suppositories used to 5 over a course of 7 days. The first time I had intercourse after the symptoms faded from the boric acid, I took another suppository that night just in case.
I also started taking vitamin D since I heard this deficiency might cause BV in women of color and I had some readily available at home already so why not. I also went ahead and bought 30 billion multi-strain probiotics from Amazon which I took orally once a day and inserted vaginally once a day as well. This was my attempt of trying to repopulate my vagina with all the good bacteria it needed during the day while the boric acid killed off the bad bacteria at night. I also tried to eat a cup of yogurt with active probiotics as often as I remembered and drank at least 5-8 cups of water every day. Aside from the tampons soaked in coconut oil, I also tried (I’m usually a tampon user so this was tough) to use pads the entire time since I didn’t want to irritate my vagina.
*** It's been about two weeks since I first started taking the boric acid suppositories and this is the most relief I've gotten since December 2016. The smell is mostly gone, crazy amounts of discharge haven't taken over my life. And I wore tight yoga pants the other day, and I smelled normal the whole day!! I forgot what normal smelt like! I'll probably keep taking the suppositories and coconut oil if I feel it flaring up again, but fingers crossed that this lasts! I'll keep updating!***
