Both shoulders needed Rotator Cuff Surgery

Posted , 4 users are following.

Last July I had Left rotator cuff surgery. I was VERY painful. Went through 6 months of Rehab. Still was hurting. 4 weeks ago I had Right rotator cuff surgery. Both shoulder were shot from 20+ years of Gymnastics. Now that I am VERY limited what I can do with my right side being in a sling that is aggrivating the left side. Sometimes it hurts worse then the right side. I wish I knew the long term outcome of this. I can't take strong pain killers becaue I get severe headaches from them. Will the pain ever go away?

Wow. So sorry for your pain. sad I have only had my left RC done. That was a year ago. Still some aching here and there. Swimming is hard. I knew my shoulder would take 6-12 months to heal. I can do most everything except the strength I once had isn't there. Both shoulders? Gosh, all I can say is be kind to yourself. Baby those shoulders (although you need to be very faithful with your therapy and it's urgent you don't give up!) Rest, ice, ice, ice baby...it WILL get better...hang in there and keep us posted. God bless!

My shoulders are only part of my problem. I also have to bad discs. L-2 and L-3. One is severly herniated and the other one is almost gone. I'll have to address that situation at a later date. Thanks for kind words!

Wow, you have a therapist, right? Does he/she know about your back issues? I ended up having some issues in my mid to upper back from my therapy. Again, best wishes...sad

No therapy will repair the discs.  Its beyond that. ONLY surgery of some type. Cheers!

I wasn't implying that the therapist could help your back, only that shoulder therapy could "aggravate" your back issue, thereby changing your shoulder exercises. Just a thought. smile

one step at a time.  slow and steady... you will improve.  stay focused.

yes, the pain will improve...give it time, stay calm, ask others to help you, ice-ice and more ice.  Slow and steady.  As a athlete, you know the importance of focus and patience.  you will be okay!!

What bothers me is BOTH shoulders were done and now the left side is hurting since I can't use my right side. This is certainly a tough surgery. Worse then 3 hernias!

Be very careful with your left shoulder. I  had R shouler rc surgery and whilst recovering L shoulder developed partial tear due to over compensating. You need to still rest the L shoulder and give it some care as it is still early in recovery. Easier said than done I know. I am trying to avoid surgery on my left.

    Good luck.

Sorry to hear this. I'm in the same boat, I had my right side done 3 months ago and the doc wants to do my left in 3 weeks. I'm not sure that my right is healed up enough yet. I still have lots of pain and just started lifting 1 to 5 pounds of weight at therapy this week. How is your doing after 6 months of rehab?

Its been 10 months since the Left side was done. Its better but I still have some tingling in my hand and some pain since I can't use my right side for a while. The Sling comes off this wek but its only 6 weeks since that was done. Once the right side improves it will take the load off the left side and hopefully they will bot improve over time. No more Gymnastics for me! Seriously I would wait 6 months to a year before doing the other side. Otherwise you will burdon the left side too quickly!  Cheers!
