Bowel problems 11 weeks post rectocele repair

Hi all.

I’m abit concerned and was looking for some advice.

I had my rectocele repair 11 weeks ago, all is fine, had a few complications after with a hematoma and bleeding but that sorted itself out.

But at the moment I’m in a lot of pain with my back. And I’m finding it hard to empty my bowels. But not in a constipated way. My stools aren’t too hard or anything. It just seems really uncomfortable to push, and the poo is right there but I just can’t seem to push it out. Sorry but I don’t know how else to explain!

There is no bulge from what I see, and I’ve felt inside and it all feels intact. I know I still have some stitches higher up that haven’t dissolved yet.

I just wondered if anyone else experienced this?

I haven’t even attempted sex yet to be honest. I’m really not ready for that at all.

It’s not unusual to have trouble with BM’s even 11 weeks out. You are still healing. Drink plenty of water, I avoid alcohol, I drink a mixture of 1/3 cup prune juice and 1/3 cup pure pineapple juice each morning. I eat a high fiber diet but I’m Gluten intolerant and any oats or GF breads/crackers will cause trouble with BM’s. If allowed, use Milk of magnesia 1/2 dose in the morning if you have not had a BM within an hour of being up. I follow up with 1/2 dose before bed if I need it. Always drink plenty of water with these. Occasionally I may need glycerin suppository to help. Read about squatty potty and how to sit. Never strain. Stool softeners can help too. My smoothie of: kefir or plain Greek yogurt, chia seeds, flaxseeds, fruit, cinnamon, honey, stevia, turmeric and milk or prune juice or pineapple juice will get the gut moving for me but drink plenty of water with this since it is high in fiber and filling. You can make enough for several days and have them ready in frig when needed.

I still feel stitches but can’t be up longer than an hour without needed to rest or lay down after 15 weeks. I have frequent excruciating pain like something is tearing or ripping that causes level 7-8 pain so am seeking a 2nd opinion. Had MRI. Will get results this week. Do drs ever admit something went wrong?

Let us know if you figure out the cause of your back pain.
