bowel problems

hi I was diagnosed with remitting/relapsing ms in March 2014 although confirmed as ms in January. I have only just had my second infusion (tsyabri) a couple of days ago.

My problem is my bowels. I suffer from constipation and suddenly my stomach explodes. Last week I managed to poo virtually everyday but then all of a sudden I had pains in my stomach and unfortunately soiled myself before I could get to the bathroom. The following day I did not eat until early evening and I was fine. Two days after I had the same problem of pains in stomach and soiling myself. My stomach does keep feeling tight/numb, would this have anything to do with it. Can someone please recommend something I can do or take to help alleviate the problem

Your problem is MS related but neurologist refuse to addmitt that MS effects the  digestive system.  They say the same about the heart, which is not true.  After all, it is the neurolgical system that controls every bit of the body and functions.  I recommend you go on a high dose of vitamin D 2000 IU's daily, and you should do this religiously none stop.  Also, I recommend you eat a banana a day as it contains patasium which is very impotant to muscle function, including digestive function. Your feeling that your stomach is exploding could be that because of the MS, it is producing too much acid which causes constipation effecting the whole of the digestive system. Go to your doctor and ask if he can prescribe Omeprazole 20 mg twice daily before food. You should see a difference in what you discribe with you digestive system and stomach.  The most important thing to keep you MS in control will be the high dosage of vitamin D 2000 IU's !!

...  You should see a difference in what you describe with your stomach within 4 day of taking Omeprazole...  It is socking that many neurologist fail to tell their patients, how very important to go on a very high dosage of vitamin D!!  Let me know how things go.

    Hi Adrian,

What dosage are you on with the vitamin D ?  I initially started with a dosage of 6000 IU's.  The problem with your stomach is that because of the MS, your stomach is no longer able to regulate the amount of acid that it produces, and in your case it is producing too much acid causing multiple symptoms with your digestive system, including the feeling that your stomach is going to explode.  Omeprazole will help !!

Vitamin D works, so keep taking them none stop, especially during the Autumn and Winter time.  Like you, I was diagnosed with remitting MS, but not able to go on any MS drug, as they effect my heart in a bad way.  Since taking vitamin D in high dosages, many of my symptoms improved and lessions on my brain and spine have shown to be healing to the point where they only just about shown on MRI scans. Since going on vitamin D nearly 2 yrs ago, I have not had an MS attack. However, some of the old symptoms still linger on. Unfortunately server MS attacks can cause permanent damage, and so they key is to stop the MS attacks.  I know that you are on MS drugs, and so you will not know whether it's the drugs or vitamin D. I would consider stopping the drugs that you are on and see what happens, with you just taking the vitamin D.  You have to remember that MS drugs call also bring on other serious conditions and diseases.  I also beleive that removing or decreasing the intake of dairy products can greatly help with reducing MS attacks.  On top of this, if you are able to exercise then this will be a Huge bonus !!!

I think you need to look at your diet and see if it happens more with certain foods. What you describe can happen to me if I eat too many nuts, fruit, seeds or whole grains. I think it is actually diverticulitis, but because of my MS the bowel motion can be so sudden.

I think you have diverticulitis. I think that you should see a gastroenterologist.
