I have had two of these therapies. How many should I have to hopefully make a difference? I can't go on for ever as it is quite expensive.

l know Eileen you mentioned Bowen Therapy and I know everyone is different but would be grateful for any info.

many thanks

Tricia.

If you have three sessions and it does not help, give up. Unfortunately Bowen did not help me, although it seems to help so many people.

I knew it was doing 'something' after two. It wont help with 'bony' issues like arthritis, but does help with many muscular problems.

I tried it for 6 sessions, just because you never know if you're going to be the one person that takes longer to respond. Unfortunately, I was one that didn't respond at all. After that, I tried a massage therapist who specializes in myofascial work because I suspected my problems were muofascial pain syndrome. He didn't do massage on me (as my muscles responded to massage with more pain), but worked on trigger points. Still painful, but not afterwards, like the massage. After 3 sessions, I started to feel better, and have continued to imporve. I startede having sessions 1x/wk, then 1x every 2wks, then 3wks, then 1 month, and am now just doing maintenance every 5-6 wks. Hoping this will continue to work for me.

I had five treatments. Last one was in November.  Still doing pretty good.  I am never without stiffness and some pain.  Am on 17 mg prednisone.  Diagnosed a year ago.  I agree that each of us responds differently.  Didn't know if it helped at first and felt worse after the first session which can be expected so I've been told.  Good luck!

I have had diagnosed PMR for 3 years and am on 4 mg of Pred. I have always had some aches/stiffness - maybe Pred helped about 85%.

Last November I finally tried Bowens. I went 3 times weekly and then 3 times every other week. The results were gradual but excellent.  After the first sessions I had NO aches/stiffness and this lasted about 2 days. After more sessions the results started lasting longer. It's been over 3 weeks since my last session and I am still pretty much 100% ache/stiffness free.  Saturday I golfed 9 holes on a hilly par 3 course and carried my clubs....weight on my shoulders....and I've had no aches/stiffness.....simply amazing for my condition.

The other great improvement I have had is with my fatigue. It's been my second worst symptom (aches/stiffness is first). Jenna has a list in her office about conditions Bowen can help with and when I saw fatigue on that list I asked her to also treat me for that.  Improvement was also gradual and after my 6th session I had excellent energy for about a week, and since then I've had very good energy. It's been wonderful to have more energy. I'm not back to my pre-PMR level, but so much better than I have been.

i need to decide when I should get another Bowen session. I don't know if I will stay at this "level of wellness" or if I will start to backslide without getting periodic Bowen sessions.  Jenna said I have to listen to my body.

I would also also like to say that I went to my early Bowen sessions without researching it too much.....I only knew what I had read on this forum. I wanted to have no expectations and an open mind and just note how my body responded. Sometimes my left brain takes over and I over analyze things and ultimately talk myself out of trying new things.....but luckily not this time!

An update on my post about a month ago about my Bowen experiences.  As you can see from my previous post, I was feeling great after my 6 sessions.  A friend asked me to go to the gym with her and I thought I was being oh so careful.....but the next day a little bit of ache was back in my shoulders.  I might have been able to overcome that but I moved a heavy bag a short distance and that not only put me back to square one......it caused a flare.....sigh.

I had been on 4 mgs but had to go up to 5 to get the ache out of my neck and shoulders.  And I had 2 Bowen sessions.  I'm not as ache-free as I was a month ago but it's encouraging to know that that is possiblesmile

And if I had it to do over I probably still would have gone to the gym with my friend.  As we know with this PMR, you can't just put your life on hold and sit in a bubble!

Thank you so much for all your replies.

I started at 15mgs and am now down to 4. My upper arms and the backs of my legs still ache especially when I get up in the morning so I thought I would try Bowen. Went this morning so fingers crossed. I will let you know how I feel. Not too sure when to go again.
