BP goes high for a few hours

Posted , 4 users are following.

So I've been fighting moderately high BP for over ten years now, runs in the family.

Generally when I go to the doctor, every three to six months, for one thing or another, my BP in the office is quite normal. I seem to have reverse white-jacket syndrome!

And for the most part, with meds, my BP has been pretty well under control recently, say for the past year or so. Other things not so much, but the BP, pretty good.

Except, every now and then it jumps up anyway, for a few hours, even for a day or two. I normally take very low doses of my BP meds and when I get one of these jumps I take larger doses. Just went through this again today. After six hours, and adding in my backup dosing, things are back to normal.

So the question is - anybody else experience patterns like this?

Of course you have to have a BP meter at home and use it, or you might never even know it's happening.

Thanks.

hi...so how high does it get..and what do you take to get it down again

When "normal" it's down around 120/80, when high it gets around 150/100.

My regular meds for the last year has been 20mg olmesartan (ARB). When that isn't enough I take 25mg hctz (diuretic), and if that still doesn't work, or if my pulse or arrhythmia act up, I take 12.5mg atenolol (beta blocker). And if that still hasn't helped after four hours I'll take another 20mg olmesartan.

And sometimes that STILL doesn't work, but so far the excursions (which have occasionally gone higher) seem to finally correct after 12-36 hours or so.

Oh one more note - I have, I finally figured out, suffered from high BP caused by "the cheese effect" because I frequently take turmeric/curcumin as a supplement, which is a type2 MAOI, you can search for more about that. But I've been watching my diet as best I can to avoid those episodes.

I've also suspected that certain spices, peppers, something, may trigger these episodes, but I find nothing online about such a possibility.
