BPH / Painful Prostate / Rezum

Question: I'll be 61 in October, just had a biopsy in January and it was clear, PSA went up again so did an MRI this month, everything is still clear. MRI measurement of prostate is 72ml. Failed the flow test at the URO's office and Dr. recommends Rezum. I've been on flowmax for a year. I typically have an awareness of the prostate (not necessarily painful, but uncomfortable)l, esp after ejaculation. Wondering if anyone knows if this gets better after Rezum?

It said that they have been doing trials on it and it is now approved by NICE as a treatment.
For patients who receive TURP, in comparison, roughly 10 per cent are left with erectile problems and 2 per cent have permanent urinary incontinence.
Roughly 65 per cent are also left with ejaculation problems – for Rezum it is about 5 per cent.
Professor Ahmed stressed there are some disadvantages of the steam treatment. He said: 'It is not instant – it might take three to eight weeks to see the benefit, it is a slow burn.'
The technology may also be unsuitable for men with the largest prostates – who would be better off having a high-tech laser surgery treatment.
Rezum is the latest in a series of non-surgical options for enlarged prostates to emerge in the last year.
Another treatment involves blocking the blood supply to the prostate by injecting tiny plastic beads into an artery.
Professor Hindley, who does his academic work at the University of Winchester, added: 'This could be a game-changer for the NHS. You can do five or six cases in half a day.'

Thanks Ken. You might be right but I'm not sure. I had Prostatitis a year ago at this time (what started this whole cycle of events), and was on Cipro for a month. That however seemed to be a lot more intense (I was miserable for 2 months), this a lot less mild and tolerable. I guess I may have to go back and have them check for an infection if it keeps up though. This BPH thing sucks.

Yes it does. I just got off Bactrim for a infection 21 days. Now 28 days on Cipro. I hate it. I also have a tight external sphincter. Today has not been to bad but yesterday I had to force myself to go. Felt like it took for ever. And I know it not my prostate because I had the Urolift done over 3 years ago and I am still wide open Had a flex able scope the other day and all is fine Before you do anything make sure you don't have a infection Take care Ken
