Suffering from above for 3 months. Doctors have been treating for UTI but it keeps coming back. Whenever there is any stool accumulation the urge to move bowels is urgent and almost continuous - every 5 - 10 mins, day and night. After an enema  it subsides for a day or two then returns with a vengeance. Doctors offer no diagnosis or treatment. HELP!!!.

Hey didn't they find bacteria in the urine test or blood in the urine test??

Yes, both. He has been on short courses of antibiotics on and off for 3 months. When a urine test is clear of infection, they stop the antibiotics and it comes back. This happens over and over and over. We've been told this is common in older men with BPH and they want to put him on a long term low dose antibiotic and send him home from the hospital where he's been for 2 and a half weeks. We want the urine infection cleared up but we're told that the really strong antibiotics will cause C. diff.

As for his persistent urge to move his bowels, they did a scan of his "back passage" with some dye and said they could find nothing wrong. The consultant has therefore concluded that he has no medical problem and should be discharged. We've asked for a urology consult but we've been told the urologist wouldn't be able to tell the doctor anything he doesn't already know.

Because of his BPH we thought it might be related to prostate enlargement or infection. The consultant says his blood tests show no signs of infection.

He is exhausted from going to the toilet almost constantly because of the persistent urge tp move his bowels and has had several falls during the night because of this.

I can't understand how he can be discharged in such a state.
