BPPV sand sleeping

hello!

I got my first episode of BPPV back in september last year. it lasted over 2 months because i didnt know what was wrong and delayed treatment. Im 27 years old and was hoping it would go away on its own. After a couple Epleys and time, it eventually went away. now, 6 months later i feel pretty normal but i have not layed down or slept flat ever since last september. i just sleep with a bunch of pillows sitting up . crazy but ive been so scared of the BPPV coming back. Well, ive developed a new issue with my lower back from not laying down so i need to start learning to go back to sleeping normal. can i do that? or will the vertigo return once i start sleeping flat again. Does everyone return to normal sleeping once the episode is done? i really dont know but the thought of not laying down forever is really depressing.

Can i go back to sleeping normal again(flat and on my sides) or will the BPPV come back?

I get bppv seasonally It's weird. Usually Sept/October and then again in March/April I am holding my breathe right now as it has not visited yet. I am hoping that the supplementing Vit D3 since December is going to make a difference.

I have gone through this for many years. Sometimes I just waited it out and other times, I went for to a PT. That really helped. After having the maneuver the bppv stopped but had residual off balance feeling for about 2 weeks after. I only was mindful of my sleeping position for the for the time I had the vertigo and the 2 weeks after maneuver was done.. After that I went right back to my normal sleeping position. I could not have not tolerated sleeping like you have for so long. I have lower back problems so that would have been terrible.

I know it is frightening but you might consider sleeping in your most comfortable position. I did and had no other problems. I assume you know which ear was affected.

i think it was my left ear but im not sure. by the time i went to PT to get it treatesd it already began to correct itself. i guess the crystal started to dissolve.

i guess i could just try to sleep flat again and see what happens. its scary because i dont want another episode but from what i read its either it never happens again or it may. ugh! so awful.

thank you for the reply. 😃

i haven't been diagnosed with bppv but the doctor thinks i have it as i only get vertigo when laying down or waking up apart from that i sometimes get dizziness during the day not vertigo but the feeling of being on a boat. i slept on my right side twice when i got vertigo so assume its my right ear affected. I'm now getting a ringing noise in my left ear and my head feels fuzzy at times but vestibular exercises help. my left ear could be something completely different but i also sleep with 5 pillows and haven't got vertigo since. i seem to be able to control it by sitting up when my head feels fuzzy. i slept last night with 1 pillow for the first time since December and i was fine. i do the eply manoeuvre even though it don't make me feel dizzy with a few vestibular exercises before going to bed and had a good night sleep. just don't sleep on your affected ear. and try sleeping on your back first.
