Hi.
Does anyone have an issue with brain fog?
I am taking 25 mg methotrexate a week and 4 salazopyrin a day plus 8 paracetomol and 8 ibruprofen a day and my brain fog has been getting steadily
Worse over the 2 months that I've been on this
Dose.
Its making me feel worried about how I'm going to
Function through my life feeling like this.
Any advice would be lovely

I recently finally stopped taking Prednisolone after nearly 4 years. I take ranitidine and have had to take more of that lately but I think it is responsible for severe pain that keeps me awake.
You seem to be taking a lot of paracetemol daily, you do have to be careful of overdose.
Is the MTX helping? They say that you have to take it for at least 12 weeks before knowing whether it is helping. I had to stop mine for 3 doses [less than 3 weeks] and I know that it helps because everything flared up again.
Have you spoken to your Consultant about this? Can he lower the dose slightly?

I felt better after splitting the dose taking half twice a week. So you could take 12.5 on say Monday and Thurs evenings.
I'm also taking omega / plant oils and b vitamins that help cognitive function.
Hope that helps

Have you spoken to your GP about taking that much ibuprofen every day? I understand we're not supposed to take it as it's another DMARD on top of your RA drugs. I can't remember if it's because it interacts or just because it's harsh on your stomach.
You must feel rotten to take that many painkillers - I have RA and I understand what that feels like if you suffer from the same. I was on your drugs at higher doses plus hydroxychloroquine as well. I thought I should rattle I was on so much. None of it helped and after a few months they put me on Humira injections which finally did the trick.
I don't remember feeling brain fog and I was working full time at a publishers at the height of my illness (don't know how I did it looking back). I don't know if you have RA but imagine the massive amounts of inflammation occuring in your body and it's like having the flu all the time. Your cells fighting infection but the cells they are attacking are your own. I wouldn't be suprised if you can't think straight.
Make sure you speak to your specialist and ask about it - I have a number to call to leave a message for a nurse specialist to call me back if I have a query.
Good luck Emma. I hope you feel better soon. I am now 100% most days. It can happen.
