Brain fog

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed in May & currently use Methotrexate, Plaquenil & prednisone. I'm now 69 years old & have had reasonably good health until now. I seem to be experiencing brain fog now & then, lack of concentration. Could this be due to medication or just old age. I'm beginning to be concerned. Any thoughts? Thank you.

    Hi

After 2 years of active RA and trying numerous combinations of the dmards with no success I have been started on humira. My pain has completely gone but the best thing is is the terrible brain fog that went with it for 2 years has also gone. I cant believe how clear my head is , is so nice to feel normal. I cant explain to people how happy I am that my head is so normal. The brain fog was definitely the worse part of it. You feel like your going crazy. I've only had one dose of humira as well and it worked that quick.

I hope you can get some relief from the brain fog somehow

Wow Emma thank you so much. Might be something to speak to my rheumatologist about. I'll try anything. I'm scared to death of losing my independence. I'm so grateful for all the input.

Usually you have to work through the DMARDs in order - it isn't without logic, all of the drugs may or may not work for YOU, if you jump to the end of the list there is less to fall back on. Even the biologics don't work for everyone, even the biologics may stop working for you after a time - it doesn't matter what autoimmune illness you have, you won't necessarily be the same as other people in any respect, whether it is how your illness manifests for you or your response to the medications.

I had really bad brain fog on the third and fourth day. Felt like I was drunk and dizzy. No way would I drive and work was too tough!  Had to go off the metho because of it, the nausea was getting better.

On lefludomide June until this week. Worked July-September and then downhill. Bad stomach side effects too. Just switched to plaquinel yesterday.

Be sure to tell you dr about symptoms in case it is too much of a reaction to the med.

DMARDs, disease modifying anti rheumatic drugs are powerful.

Try to sleep in the day after MTX and allow your body some time to recuperate. Give yourself an easy day.

Once your dose stabilizes and your body adjusts you will not notice it as much.
