Brain Fog And Fatigue

Hello, first time here.

I am hypothyroid, taking the meds and my levels are normal range. Yet I am still fatigued and foggy brained. I started on statins a few years back and around that time is when the fatigue gradually began. (I should explain that prior to that I was hypothyroid for a lot of years, meds working fine).

My basic question is whether anyone was tired on statins, stopped taking them, and the tiredness went away.

Mycholesterol is borderline high, not off the scale, no cardiovascular problems, 75 years old, slightly high blood pressure.

The tiredness is really getting me down and I am considering going off the statins for, say, six months and see if I feel any better.

All experiences and advice appreciated!

Hi Dave, I started a thread a few days ago - see Atorvastatin and Fatigue. I was on that type of statin for just over a year and then started experiencing tingling in my arms and fingertips together with general fatigue which at times was quite bad. The tingling has now stopped. I threw the statins in the bin six or seven weeks ago and, whilst I have seen a bit of an improvement, I am nowhere near my old self.  From reading other people’s problems, I am not expecting to be fully better for at least six months to possibly a year or more. Hope you improve soon.

Hi Dave, my father was on statins for a few years, became fatigued to the point of lying down for a day or so until I would give him a multivitamin but was still tired but not as extreme as he was prior to the multivitamin. He then started get tiredness in his arms and legs, so he decided to wean off the stations to see if they were causing the tiredness. It took him about 9 months to fully recover, his energy has come back he no longer needs to lie down, he goes out to buy groceries or to walk. Also, forgot to mention he was also on blood pressure medicine but when the doctor told him it was normal he stopped taking it. Beets lower your blood pressure as well as cranberries for which he's now drinking beet & cranberry juice. He was also having brain fog, it is much better. But I will admit that he's a big proponent of herbal supplements, he takes kelp, spirulinal, turmeric, berberine, cq10, fish oil, ashwaganda and probably other supplements. The doctor was amazed as to how well he's doing now that he's off the drugs. If you want more info on how to lower your cholesterol send me a pm, although I already mentioned it here I'll be happy to share more info.
