Brain fog, dizziness, vision problems, head pressure, headache PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone!

I don't know where else to go, and was hoping someone could please help me. I'll start off by saying I'm a 23 year old Caucasian female. Going on 5 months now, I have had absolutely debilitating symptoms which have hindered my daily life. I feel these symptoms every moment of every day.

It started with dizziness and a persistent brain fog. I just thought I had a bug, and tried to go on about my life. However, my symptoms have never gone away. This "brain fog" I am talking about is a feeling of complete mental confusion, I have no memory, I cannot concentrate on anything, it feels like there's a dark blanket on my brain clouding all my thoughts. I have extreme disorientation and haziness. I feel like I'm always in a dream like state.

I am constantly dizzy and feel a pulling sensation, as if I'm ready to fall over at any moment. It feels like there's air inside my head, and I'm always very lightheaded. Whenever I try to drive I feel this pulling sensation pulling me down.

Another problem I have is with my vision. I am having very blurred vision and have double vision. Everytime I look at something up close it is extremely blurry and I cannot see at all. My perception on things has completely changed. I feel like everything looks very odd and strange and I don't have the right depth perception. It's like I'm in a horrible dream like state all the time.

I have been having headaches and head pressure as well, and having horrible pains behind my eyes. The pin starts from the back of my head close to my neck and continues up my head and the sides of my temples. My eyes hurt so bad, and it feels like knives are jabbing my eyes. My head also feels extremely heavy all the time.

All these symptoms have been causing me severe anxiety, and I have been having panic attacks from them and feel like I'm dying. It is causing a strange disrespity sensation, where I feel like I'm not even here anymore and there's a detachment from myself and my body. I have had to drop all my classes at college and quit my job because these symptoms make me lay in bed all day long. I have been unable to drive for months and can barely get up to walk around. If anyone could please help me or know anything as a suggestion to try.

I have been to my general doctor, 2 ENTs, 1 neurologist, have had 2 MRIs, a hearing test, VNG, multiple blood tests, and no one knows what is wrong. I can't live like this anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also would like to add, I don’t necessarily have “pain” as much as it just pressure.

Hi again! I just saw that you went to a chiropractor and found relief! That’s so good im happy for you! I hope it continues to help

Thank you so much! I’m sorry you have found no relief. My issues aren’t really being dizzy either  and I haven’t had headaches (yet) it’s hard to explain lol. It’s like someone is pushing on my neck. And it comes and goes throughout the day. I can’t imagine dealing with this for years. I feel terrible for you. I definitely suggest you going to see a chiropractor to help some of the neck pressure. Don’t give up hope because I have seen multiple threads where people have felt that way for years and eventually felt relief.

Do you stay tensed up? I grind and clench my teeth and stay very tense. I get lightheaded and almost black out if i stretch while standing up. I thought it might be the muscles in my neck restricting my blood flow bc they are soooo tight and tensed up.

I don’t feel as though I’m tensed up all the time. It literally feels like something is pushing on the back of neck head and I don’t want to keep my head up. It’s bizarre.

Thank you! It’s definitely been the hardest thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I’m just tying my hardest to stay positive, it just gets so hard sometimes, I feel like I’m back to square one at the the bottom 😢 I will def see a chiro thanks!! And that’s awesome that gives me hope!! Do you know what they did at all to feel better or are you just talking in general?

I had that symptom too....sometimes it felt as though i was being pushed forward and sometimes backward. The pressure was at the back of my head and it was horrible.

The good news is....it goes away but you have to retrain your brain to get there!

How do you retrain your brain to do that? Ita very miserable at times.

If its a result of viral inner ear damage to the balance nerve like mine was, you need vestibular rehab. They teach you exercises to retrain your brain. It's amazing but took 3 months of therapy.

Hi Debbie, you have no idea how much hope your comment gave me. I'm only 14 but I've had dizzy spells on off for the last two years. They used to go away in 30 min to an hour but for the last two months its constant. I'm currently doing Vestibular therapy at my physical therapists. I've been going a month but I am slowly getting worse. My mother may take me to Duke University where they have a team specialized in solving tricky illnesses. I'm just unsure if I should continue the therapy because it doesn't seem to be helping like it did in the beginning. We've done ball throwing exercises, balance machine, elliptical, and the bike riding machine. I'm just wondering if you did anything at all that helped or lessened symptoms, also how long did you have this before you started feeling better?

      XOXO

      Hi Michaela

Sorry you have been suffering so long! Wow! You are very young. My vestibular exercises were very different from yours. They involved staring at the letter "C" on the wall while moving my head up and down or side to side. Also walking slowly moving my head side to side or up and down. My wonky head didn't improve until about 3 weeks in doing the exercises 4 times/day.

If I had known about the exercises from day one, I think my recovery would have occurred within 4 months.

Good luck! It does go away!
