Brain fog, dizziness, vision problems, head pressure, headache PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone!

I don't know where else to go, and was hoping someone could please help me. I'll start off by saying I'm a 23 year old Caucasian female. Going on 5 months now, I have had absolutely debilitating symptoms which have hindered my daily life. I feel these symptoms every moment of every day.

It started with dizziness and a persistent brain fog. I just thought I had a bug, and tried to go on about my life. However, my symptoms have never gone away. This "brain fog" I am talking about is a feeling of complete mental confusion, I have no memory, I cannot concentrate on anything, it feels like there's a dark blanket on my brain clouding all my thoughts. I have extreme disorientation and haziness. I feel like I'm always in a dream like state.

I am constantly dizzy and feel a pulling sensation, as if I'm ready to fall over at any moment. It feels like there's air inside my head, and I'm always very lightheaded. Whenever I try to drive I feel this pulling sensation pulling me down.

Another problem I have is with my vision. I am having very blurred vision and have double vision. Everytime I look at something up close it is extremely blurry and I cannot see at all. My perception on things has completely changed. I feel like everything looks very odd and strange and I don't have the right depth perception. It's like I'm in a horrible dream like state all the time.

I have been having headaches and head pressure as well, and having horrible pains behind my eyes. The pin starts from the back of my head close to my neck and continues up my head and the sides of my temples. My eyes hurt so bad, and it feels like knives are jabbing my eyes. My head also feels extremely heavy all the time.

All these symptoms have been causing me severe anxiety, and I have been having panic attacks from them and feel like I'm dying. It is causing a strange disrespity sensation, where I feel like I'm not even here anymore and there's a detachment from myself and my body. I have had to drop all my classes at college and quit my job because these symptoms make me lay in bed all day long. I have been unable to drive for months and can barely get up to walk around. If anyone could please help me or know anything as a suggestion to try.

I have been to my general doctor, 2 ENTs, 1 neurologist, have had 2 MRIs, a hearing test, VNG, multiple blood tests, and no one knows what is wrong. I can't live like this anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated.

-Elise

Oh my god. I have the same thing, and nobody knows what is going on at all. I also have migraines and cracking sounds in my right ear. I’m starting to be told it’s anxiety. Don’t give up, I’m very happy I’ve found this sight.

I’m so sorry Jess! This is so awful. A lot of doctors have said it’s anxiety for me, I’ve had soooo many different diagnoses. How long have you had symptoms for?

Well back tracking, I got my first migraine with a visual aura when I was twelve. I had anorexia most of my life and was a model when I was 21, I started getting a lot more anxiety at that point and would have severe panic attacks. In between all of that I would get weird deja vu temporal partial seizures. I saw a doctor for jaw pain and neck stiffness from taking Prozac, and found it was dystonia. That is gone. But while I was there I had the temporal lobe seizure and I asked about it, and he had me get an eeg. They found the abnormal brain activity on the right temporal lobe. I’ve never had a grand mal seizure ever. Fast forward. I’m a hairdresser, very busy, hard worker. In the midst of all my anxiety, and multiple trips to hospitals for stress related illnesses, I slowly developed daily headaches. Which appeared when I moved into my down stairs bedroom, along with some feelings of imbalance and brain fog. A few months later, “June of last year” I open my hair salon and start working like crazy.. 6 days a week 8 hours a day and after work chores and then some. I start getting violent migraines, I’m dizzy all the time. Literally everything you described. I’ve seen eye doctors, my neurologist swears it’s related to the temporal lobe epilepsy. They say it’s over stimulated nerves... I seen an ophthalmologist and my vision is good, even though it looks blurry and my eyes ache, and I’m very sensitive to light lately.. I’ve been to several doctors who are clueless.. I feel so scared that I’ll be like this forever. I feel like I’m always just off, my equilibrium is off, I’m dizzy, I feel like I’m falling a lot, I feel unsteady.. I’m 26 and I forget everything, I’m always so nervous and so sick. I want to feel normal again.

I swore to god, I think I’m being exposed to mold in my new room though. I moved into my new room and opened the brand new salon at the same time. I was not this bad before last June. Now I’m just getting progressively worse, and looking at my iPad screen, I feel like my eyes are on fire, like I’m staring into the sun. My right ear keeps cracking too. At my last doctor visit she prescribed me propranolol, some headache medicine, and said my eustacian tube isn’t working right and told me to pop my ears and take over the counter claritin

I feel the same way I’ve suffered from migraines as a kid as long as I can remember  when I didn’t even know how to swallow pills I’ had to cut the pills in half .

I use to get eye pain really bad  they would hurt so bad it always causes a headache I’d take exederin (usually helps )but I always would go to sleep wake up with the headache still . The eye pain has went away the only thing I feel is like a drunkness feeling 24/7 I’ve had all types of head scans adone a EEG a EKG all types of blood test and still trying to find out what is wrong my next step is getting a hearing test done and seeing a nuero .

I’m also 26 years old with two small children & this is been going on for 3 months now . I know I have mold here in the house I’m currently staying in and have been for 3 years now it’s a old house actually my grandparents house I see mold so that’s how I know my son has been composing he gets dizzy which I also do as well and had it really bad now it’s not so bad but I still get it he is always complaining about headaches he isn’t always tired like I am as well he is Only 9 .. I’ve told my doctor I had mold but she don’t think that’s it . Who really knows these doctors look at me like they have no clue but hoping to take my son to his doctor to see what the problem is with him my 2 year old don’t really talk much and my husband is diabetic so he always complains he is tired or feels sick but he thinks it’s his diabetes. I pray we all find answers one day .

I had migraines when I was pregnant and a few years after.  But I'm starting to realize that I have had them but just dealt with them.  When I looked up migraines with aura- it says numb hand!!! My PCP was like maybe you are MS?? Nice.  They don't know anything.  My headaches are always under my eye- stabbing me.  I had a buzzing/ringing in my ear for 3 months.  That's gone now too.  And I read migraines with aura have that too.  Be your own advocate-if the doctors say no- say how can it hurt to try? I have no life. I'm willing to risk it to be me again.

Honestly, many of the symptoms mentioned on this thread sound like what I’ve gone through for 4 years chronically and 10 years acutely. I was dx with MS 10/2014. I think everyone should have a neurologist and get a brain MRI and spinal tap if possible.

      Sincerely, Caroline

I had an MRI and 2 cat scans.  Nothing.  I had a follow up with the neurologist who treated me in the hospital.  Useless appt. dismissed.  I will not give up.  I have a new appt with a different Nuero in sept that specializes in this.  I'm hoping that he will confirm the vestibular migraines and have a definite course of treatment.  Because the ENT gave me these meds that are working but I am terrified to backslide- now that I have my brain back, I remember what my life was like.  I've researched this doctor and he is the director of the vestibular clinic.  I think everyone should find a doctor who specializes in Vestibular issues because the ones that don't just dismiss or say you will recover some day. I have a job that requires me to read and analyze information all day long.  I need my job and up until a few weeks ago thought I may have to give it up.  Also the vestibular physical therapists-everyone should research them-they are out there.  Give you the physical exercises.  Eye exercises and balance. No am at the point where I can do all the physical exercises perfect with my eyes open.  She then said close your eyes and do the balance. That didn't work-so I have to continue with this.  When I first started- I couldn't follow basis instructions.  Move your eyes left to right 10x- I didn't understand her because of the brain fog and had to ask her to show me what she meant- even then, I had to say - say it again please. Simple simple exercises that anyone should be able to do.  My eyeballs and neck hurt so bad after-all day.  She said my eyes and neck were overcompensating to focus so much. She also said no many pts have training in this.  So Google some in your area.  Hopefully your insurance covers this so you can try.  I saw a chiropractor first he really only knew about BPPV.

Caroline- what would a spinal tap show? What did it show with you? I haven't heard much about this.  And no doctor has ever mentioned it to me.

I see my neurologist tomorrow to discuss my recent mri, fingers crossed there’s nothing wrong and it’s all just anxiety

Hi, What has your symptoms been ? & have you always suffered from anxiety?

    • Posted

My symptoms are dizziness, it’s like vertigo, except the room isn’t spinning. Like I’d be doing something then all the sudden get really nauseated, because I feel a sudden false movement and dizzy. I also feel like my head is full of sand and then next day I feel like my head is floating and feel foggy and forgetful. Another thing is I have headaches everyday and my eyeballs always hurt and feel extremely sensitive. These are feelings that never go away. Everyday I’m dizzy and have a headache. Sometimes I feel drunk too.. it’s really ruining my life.

also yeah I’ve always had anxiety, and it’s always manifested in my body differently, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is one big stress illness. However though, I do have temporal lobe epilepsy and a migraine disorder, so it could very well be related to that too

Ohmygosh jess that’s awful!!! Have you seen a doctor about the mold issue and if that could be the underlying cause?! Or toxins in your body? I know someone in here who had seen a holistic doctor who helped them!

Has the propranolol helped at all? I feel so awful!

Did you have to request the spinal tap? I’ve asked my neurologist in the past and he was weary to give me one!

Elise that would be me.. i was diagnosed with something called CIRS, which is caused by mold exposure and build up up of toxins, metals and other things.. i started seeing a functional doctor last December and after a myriad of blood work, genetic testing and other testing he discovered the underlying issue.. i currently am feeling better, the dark heaviness in my head is gone and im not as dizzy as i use to be. My eyes still hurt but not as bad as they use to.. im still in the process of detoxification and i hope to be normal again in the near future.all of the regular doctors found nothing wrong with me, but there was most certainly something wrong.

Hi Cynthia! Is a functional doctor a “functional neurologist”? Or what is the proper name to look up so I can find one?

No doctor has ever looked into this for me and it’s something I really need to do! I’m so happy it’s working for you! smile

Hi Cynthia I was reading your reply to Elise.

Did they find CIRS from a blood test?

What were your symptoms if you don’t mind me asking ? Was it from mold in your house ?

And how long were you like that till they found out ? Did you see a nueroligist ? I wonder what type of blood test to find that?

I think I have mold or Mildew exposure in my grandmas house it’s really old .
