Brain fog, dizziness, vision problems, head pressure, headache PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone!

I don't know where else to go, and was hoping someone could please help me. I'll start off by saying I'm a 23 year old Caucasian female. Going on 5 months now, I have had absolutely debilitating symptoms which have hindered my daily life. I feel these symptoms every moment of every day.

It started with dizziness and a persistent brain fog. I just thought I had a bug, and tried to go on about my life. However, my symptoms have never gone away. This "brain fog" I am talking about is a feeling of complete mental confusion, I have no memory, I cannot concentrate on anything, it feels like there's a dark blanket on my brain clouding all my thoughts. I have extreme disorientation and haziness. I feel like I'm always in a dream like state.

I am constantly dizzy and feel a pulling sensation, as if I'm ready to fall over at any moment. It feels like there's air inside my head, and I'm always very lightheaded. Whenever I try to drive I feel this pulling sensation pulling me down.

Another problem I have is with my vision. I am having very blurred vision and have double vision. Everytime I look at something up close it is extremely blurry and I cannot see at all. My perception on things has completely changed. I feel like everything looks very odd and strange and I don't have the right depth perception. It's like I'm in a horrible dream like state all the time.

I have been having headaches and head pressure as well, and having horrible pains behind my eyes. The pin starts from the back of my head close to my neck and continues up my head and the sides of my temples. My eyes hurt so bad, and it feels like knives are jabbing my eyes. My head also feels extremely heavy all the time.

All these symptoms have been causing me severe anxiety, and I have been having panic attacks from them and feel like I'm dying. It is causing a strange disrespity sensation, where I feel like I'm not even here anymore and there's a detachment from myself and my body. I have had to drop all my classes at college and quit my job because these symptoms make me lay in bed all day long. I have been unable to drive for months and can barely get up to walk around. If anyone could please help me or know anything as a suggestion to try.

I have been to my general doctor, 2 ENTs, 1 neurologist, have had 2 MRIs, a hearing test, VNG, multiple blood tests, and no one knows what is wrong. I can't live like this anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated.

-Elise

My shaking and nausea stopped when I made sure that I have had enough calcium, magnesium, Vitamin D, E, A, B 12... so technically since I made sure to take my Vitamin a-z Supplement and extra magnesium, calcium and zinc (1/2 pill - so 500mg calcium, 250mg magnesium, 7.5mg Zinc)

And I made sure to eat enough healthy carbs (vegetables), get enough healthy lipids (salmon is great) and good protein from lean meat and drink enough water.

And eat regularly but nothing spicy, fried, no sugar.

      Hope this helps

Oh no Drew is so sorry! That's the worst when you get sick on top of this medical illness! I had the flu a couple months ago and it felt like I was dying because it made every symptom soooo much worse. I can't imagine having food poisoning with it,that must be brutal. Stay hydrated and rest!

Before these problems started were you taking saw palmetto or any over the counter supplements?

I developed brain fog, derealization, and visual problems with reading about 7 months ago after quitting medication I was prescribed.

I don't have headpressure but I've talked to a few people who have the same bad med reactions as me who describe a constant headpressure sensation.

    How you going now Elise93

Its been about a month since this post.

My vertigo/unbalance has been really bad.. I fonally got in to see another Ent specialist. Who has found a hole in my ear drum and a piece of the second bone is missing....How did this not get picked up sooner?

He also thinks I may have Menieres disease so has put me on Serc 16mg. Betahistine.

    Only helps some people.

I have also come to the conclusion that when I have these dizzy attacks and feel nauseous... I have a mini anxiety attack.. which makes it worse... then I get heart palpitations and chest pain and shaking attacks for days after..

I hope you are getting answers

I am so very happy to have run across this site. I have looked and looked for some answers. My son has been suffering with ALOT of these same symptoms. He is 23 years old and it all started after a roller coaster ride in Florida. He took a ride on 3 different ones and on one of the scariest I have been on ever,he rode twice. The next day on our ride back he just started feeling really bad. The next day when home we were in the emergency room with vertigo. He was dizzy, head and eyes hurting along with feeling like he was going to pass. ER said he had fluid in ears and then his eyes showed vertigo going on. They prescribed him meclizine. He then followed up with primary who gave him antibiotics and steroids. For the past 4 months he has seen a cardiologist, eye doctor, ENT, nuerologist, and now waiting to see another nuerologist at VCU. That appointment is not til June though. He has the symptoms of:

      fogginess,

      Not feeling right or good

      Unsteadiness

      Headaches

      Pressure in forehead

      Eye pressure

      Exhausted

      Achey.

The last nuerologist says it appears to be migraines and has prescribed amitriptyline. After reading all of these post I am thinking it is vestibular migraines and sure hope the nuerologist with the 2nd opinion can offer some relief. If anyone has any other advice or can offer any direction PLEASE help. Definitely I am a concerned and worried mom because I hate to see him suffer when he was so active and outgoing in the past. THANKS

Hi leatha! I'm so sorry to hear about your son, it's so so awful sad

I'm also 23 years old and have been dealing with this for 8 months now. He's very lucky to have you as a mom!!

Have you seen a neuro-otologist? This is definitely a doctor who can help you! It's an ent with education also in neurology, so they are familiar with vestibular disorders. Does he have "true vertigo" where he physically sees the room spinning? Or is it an internal dizziness where he feels like the inside of his head is dizzy and spinning?

Vestibular migraine is one of my possible diagnosis, and I have symptoms constantly all day long. I hope the best for you and your son!!!

Elise, thanks for the info. After another visit to the ER last night for faiting and sweating, which I believe comes from the amitriptyline, they said all checked out ok. They are referring him to an ENT at VCU which they think may be some inner ear problem. I had not heard of a neuro otologist but will definitely ask. I am just at my wit's end with this and why they can not find a solution. I pray he gets some relief soon as I know it is wearing on him emotionally and physically. Thanks and I will post again soon. Good luck and I pray also that you find some relief.
