Breast tenderness

I have tenderness in my breasts mainly my left one. Sometimes it feels like it's swollen and I can't put my arm down against my side, as it feels like a brick. It also feels hot and the sensation like it's leaking ( like during breastfeeding). I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia so the doctors put every symptom down to that, but when it comes to breasts it's a bit scary. I have had a clear mammogram recently but still concerned.

I think this is a common complaint. I have this as well. I think it could due to a hormonal imbalance. There is a Bowen method to drain the lymph in the breast and lymph nodes under the arms. I do the method myself but it would be hard to explain it in text. If you have a Bowen therapist in your area, you may want to book an appointment. This is a painless and gentle manipulation of tissue and it can be very beneficial in treating this type of tenderness and other pain related problems. Just a good natural way in dealing with our many challenges. Maggie

How old are you? I had this exact same thing when I was approaching menopause, I was in my forties. I realised later, from other symptoms, that my body was pushing out a massive amount of hormones, in a last ditch attempt to prepare the body for pregnancy I guess. Due to the fibromyalgia my bodies inflammatory response went into overdrive and caused the terrible pain and tenderness. Sorry, but nothing much helped - you just have to grit your teeth and bear it. The good news was that of course it goes away eventually. Have you tracked the pain levels with your periods? It's usually at its worst a couple of days before starting.  As you've had a clear mammogram and you don't have any specific lumps this could be it. The only other thing is mastitis which is an infection, but I guess your doctor has thought of that? Or maybe not!

Hi Lesley , I turned 45 on Saturday and have thought it was menopause for a while but doctors haven't really taken it seriously. I am at the end of my tether and really weepy.

Even more reason to think it's hormonal then! The weeping and your age add up to the peri menopause, the period in the run up to the menopause. I'm not entirely sure what can be done about it though. You may have to be firmer with your GP.
