Breath smells like faeces (Poo)

Posted , 379 users are following.

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

I think it's associated with worms, believe it or not. It may be embarrassing but you should approach a doctor or pharmacist and check this out - hardly worse than continuing to experience it...

Please see a dentist. It could be a serious infection.

    hi extremely unhappy,

i would say 1.colonic irrigation to remove undigested red meat/crap from gut

2.detox to within an inch of your life

3.look into candida diet....sugar loving yeasts

4.maintain fresh food diet,no booze, fags, red meat etc for about 4

    weeks

5.check that your bowel movements are normal/regular.

    6.drink plenty water..no cofee/tea.

7.try to eat little/often=empty tummy can be smelly.

8 pro/pre biotics particularly acidopholus (Spelling?)

9.if all else fails go to your gp anyway

    good luck,hope this helps love.

    let us know. sad

Do not take advice from this Guest. It is demonstrably incorrect.

A lot of 'hippy' types give unsubstantiated new-age treatment advice to strangers on the internet. In all cases it is intellectually damaging. In some cases, it is physically damaging, and in some cases, people die as a result.

Colonic irrigation has no scientific basis. The 'undigested crap', i.e. fibre, is important for your digestive health (http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/1141.aspx?categoryid=51).

The vast ocean of scientific literature gives no support for 'detox' treatments (http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/the-detox-scam-how-to-spot-it-and-how-to-avoid-it/).

The candida diet is without basis ( http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/candida-and-fake-illnesses/).

Red meat is a good source of protein and vitamins and minerals, such as iron and zinc. It should be moderated as part of a healthy diet (http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Goodfood/Pages/red-meat.aspx).

I have given up refuting your claims. Remember, it takes almost no effort to spew bad facts to thousands of people. It takes a lot of effort to refute them and provide evidence. Just stop spreading bad advice. Stop spreading diet or medical advice. Just stop.

Sorry... I was just trying to give ppl another choice there . I should put more reminders or just direct them to more research... Maybe I should go to the detox forum for my experiment. I know that ppl would put up so many things to dismiss my experience. But it is true because I'm experiencing ! Just like the doctors keep telling u that u smell fresh when u r fecal smelling... sigh... U see :-( if there's some scientific evidence then we wouldn't be all suffering... Ummm maybe I would say please just take this into account and research on Robert Gray and Richard Anderson, there r always special condition like ours therefore we hv to seek more information that works for our own, but I just saw that this is a dental forum, maybe it's caused by tonsils this condition, but, hving good diet or good nutrition can improve one's health, which u can't deny, and u don't need meat to be healthy... What I'm saying is that, don't dismiss anyone's experience as how the general ppl dismiss us... It did happen on me, and that's all I want to let u guys know, but I was wrong to not direct ppl here to research first, so, please research and see if some symptoms are in you... maybe it's one of us who would find sth useful to cure us by digging deeper... Sorry anyway... I just was eager to help:'(

Freaking hippies. Thank you Dr. Jay Dawg. I was all set to give myself a massive enema followed by a 3 week cleansing diet of hibiscus petals, eucalyptus, and cannabis.  I'll avoid the bad advice and try to keep my tongue out of random culos in the future and start brushing more regularly. I'm also glad I can ditch the diet and head back to the churrascaria. Obrigado and never forget the Raiders will always be second best in the Bay.

Rightly said, so many individuals get misguided due to unsubstantiated claims being passed off as facts, based on personal/ anecdotal evidence (ridden with biases). Yes, the intention of Guest was good, however even good motives can be detrimental if they are based on unfounded claims.

Although, we must not belittle or stereotype an individual.

Totally agree with you. This Internet medicine is an easy way to freak people out. Its one thing to make a suggestion on possible treatment with talking to your GP. But another diagnose under false information and suggest treating yourself

      So JayDawg,

What DO you suggest to clean up the ass mouth smell. Until you live with it, ppl who suffer will try anything. I don't think getting rid of sugar or red meat is life threatening. What ARE your suggestions?

      Aloha Jay,

I grew up on western medicine, but moved to a hippie community  in my 30’s. I’m now sixty.

I had pain in my arms and tried to heal it myself through all the cleansing, candida diets, and fasting. It didn’t work.

In the process though, even though I wasn’t trying to achieve this outcome, I got ride of: 1) headaches, I don’t have them at all anymore. 2) Restless leg  syndrome  3 ) severe pain between my  groin and neck. I use to drink Aloe Vera to keep the pain at bay. It gone now.

I’m not a hippie, I’m just a white guy living in California/ Hawaii.

I’m not lecturing or arguing. I just wanted to share some amazing healing experiences.

      Take care.

invest in a good tongue scrapper and use it. mouthwash companies hate this simple cure for poo breath. Love forever.. G-D is great. you're not so bad yourself.dhyjvy
    • Edited

I had to respond to the individual who suggested using a tongue scrapper because this makes me so angry. I was scraping my tongue until it was bleeding, in addition to brushing, gargling and flossing twice a day etc., and it made no difference to my bad breath.  POOR HYGIENE DO NOT RESULT IN FECULENT BREATH...I know someone who doesn’t even brush his teeth every day and he does not suffer from bad breath. I am not saying that keeping your mouth healthy and clean is not essential, I believe it is and still do so on a daily basis. However, the point I am making is the type of bad breath described here is not the result of neglect in oral hygiene.

      Hi There!

I have the same issues with the fart breath for many years. I have seen doctors, two colonoscopy, and eat healthy. I tried different mounth washs. Nothing work. I still here people say who fart. I'm so embarrassed and leave and lock myself in my home.

I have researched little about little acoffee

    • Posted

I have researched about coffee. I drink black coffee every day. It has been a year and a half and no one says who fart. I don't know if it is black coffee. I'm still hesitate to hang around larger group of people.

    • Posted

Are you saying that black coffee is making your breath better or worse? For a while I thought it's the sugar and cream in the coffee that make my breath stinks.

    • Edited

It is Not repeat, NOT a result of bad oral hygiene. Ppl can be so ignorant, cruel, and clueless. Including a GP. I think it's because they are unsure how or what to do to get rid of it. I am still searching. When I find the answer, I will share. Until then, hang in there guys.

    • Posted

Please try the no sugar. No fruits no sugar period. My breath improved dramatically by doing no sugar on my diet.
    • Posted

Thanks MJ. I will try this approach. I've already cut out meat from my diet.

    • Edited

      That I agree with completely.

I brush, Floss, use a tongue scraper, use Therafresh mouth wash and I still have the poo smell.

I was a dental assistant for years and would brush and rinse before every patient and my breath was still offensive. It was so embarrassing.

I had to stop chewing gum because I have TMJ, so I just eat mints like there's no tomorrow.

I have no social life because I'm just too embarrassed about my breath.

      Jennifer,

What suggestions have you heard? I've done everything from a tonsillectomy to becoming a vegetarian to having a periodontist clean my roots and teeth. Two colonoscopy's and still... No change. I wonder if getting that antibiotic 500 will help!? Let me know if you find a solution.

Pls do because lm now 43 years old and l complained this to my GP when l was 22 and he told me he doesn't smell anything and he only sees a depressed girl. I still have it 20 years later. I gone on to marry have a family and my husband always wants to kiss me but lm not comfortable. I will never be truly happy until l get rid of this.

Hi Ana. I'm 44 and it sounds like we are in very similar circumstances. I recently contacted a private hospital to see if they can test me for SIBO and TMAU. So far I havent had any joy. This is my last chance to find something, I've been trying everything since my 20's. It's so depressing. my marriage is now being affected.

Yes let me know what happens. I recently told my Gp about acid reflux and prescribed some omeprazole but lm not hopeful anymore. Since the day l realise l have tonsils stones , l thought it was the end of my problems since l know the cause. 5years later after having my tonsils removed, it is still there
    • Edited

I got my tonsils removed over ten years ago thinking it would be the answer. I actually think things are worse now. Feel as if I get more comments since I got tonsils removed.

I'm becoming more anti social by the day. When I go out with friends and drink alcohol it makes things worse and people ask what the smell is but if I didn't catch up with friends I might go insane.

I don’t drink in public anymore. Interestingly enough, I’m a musician so I play in venues with bars and people. But I just stay sober, walk around with soda water and lime and tell people I just don’t drink these days. As tempting as it is, it’s not worth it. I’d rather be sober and just a little smelly than buzzed and reak. Man it’s a hard journey.

I have done a bit of experimenting here and found that a couple of pints of bitter, followed by G&T don’t seem to cause an issue. Drinking pints all night, especially lager, definitely will.

    • Posted

Damn it’s actually impressive that you’re still doing your music thing in public. I’ve lived most of my twenties like a hermit sad

Likewise I had my tonsils removed thinking that was the cause.

    • Posted

I had my tonsils removed as well but the smell continued. The smell or the pressure it was coming out worsened after I had a violent vomiting session - back in April. Fast forward to now, I’ve been diagnosed with h. Pylori and hiatal hernia. I took 7 days of Pylera for the pylori. And Prilosec (omeprozole) for my acid reflux.

Good news is I have seen major improvement in my breath since the Pylera treatment! My breath doesn’t smell anymore!

Do you remember how you properly got tested for Hpylori? I’m currently doing an 8 step Ubiome test for the gut and intestines.

    • Posted

Yes, I have to say, I’m impressed with myself. We all should be. Two winters ago was the worst it ever was. I almost quit and became a hermit. I actually did start playing less then and worked construction full time. It was a distraction because it was hard on my body and plus I was outside, expected to kinda smell on a job sight. But I’ve gotten my condition better due to trial and error since then. Haven’t found a cure but I’m now mostly comfortable being in public as long as I don’t drink alcohol or eat surtain things. It’s made my self control and appreciation for life very strong. However, sometimes I break down and cry if I see or hear something emotional, even positive things. It’s made me so emotionally sinsitive for my age(I’m 30). There are strangely positive things that come out of this. I see people who are socially comfortable who don’t have this issue, become so frustrated at the smallest things. Things I would view as very minor now.

That's great you have such good willpower. I just love a few glasses of wine but maybe it's time for me to give it up. Thing is, I get comments during the day when I'm not drinking as well.

Started a new job a few months ago and one guy kept walking past the area I sit and commenting about a farty smell. It's so embarrassing. The girls I sit with kept saying they couldn't smell it. It's like if you are sitting in the area you are used to it but walking into the area makes you smell it more? Or maybe some people just don't smell it the same. My husband says he doesn't smell it, either that or he's trying to protect my feelings.

    • Posted

Hmm that's interesting, I like g&t so might try that and see if I get less comments. Going away to a caravan with my friends this weekend so I'm a bit anxious.

    • Edited

I've been tested twice for h. pylori so I definitely don't have it.

I've failed trying to get someone who will test for SIBO and. TMAU. Was even trying private consultants but they haven't heard of it. I live in Scotland so I might look at England now to see if I can travel for the tests.

It’s frustrating. I purposely work jobs that are primarily outside. The one aspect I hate about this is that my potential in some aspects could be better. In some ways it’s made me better.
    • Posted

I hear you, I’m unusually emotional too! I’m on anti-depressants tho which helps in my case.

But yeah the h. Pylori, funny thing is the stool test done by my p.p. came back NEGATIVE, but when my gastroenterologist did an endoscopy he saw gastric & intestinal inflammation so he took biopsy of that tissue. The biopsy came back POSITIVE for h. Pylori, so that’s how we found out!

In a month or so i’m going to the lab to do a ‘breath test’ to see if the h. pylori is really gone.

Keep me posted y’all as i’ll Try to do the same smile

I also had that done but it came back negative. I have subsequently had a lactose and lactulose hydrogen breath test and the preliminary result was that i had elevated levels of bacteria in the upper gut. I haven’t had the official results back yet though, but i will share them when they become available.

      Chin up!

Hello all. Look into impedance test done by gastro specialist. Also stool test that your doc can odor for any overgrowth.

hi what detox do you recommend to flush everything out.

    • Posted

      Possible cause:

toxins/bacteria come up from the stomach and grow on mucous (post nasal drip) on tongue and in throat.

      Try:

      probiotic (I use kefir),

warm nasal rinse (clear mucous from sinus)

brush tongue, cheeks (clear mucous in mouth),

try and clear mucous from throat.

Have decent breakfast and other meals.
