Breath smells like faeces (Poo)

Posted , 379 users are following.

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

Did anyone take clotrimazole, an antifungal? It is suppose to be like fluconzole.

I am hesitant tothis take it bc antibiotics messed up my immunity & that is one reason I haven't fought this.

    Any suggestions?

Hi Daniel, I just received your message.

It's good to hear that at least you continue to look for solutions, instead of just giving up.

Have you narrowed down if it's many things going on instead of just one issue?

For ne it seems that it's IBS & not going completlly in the morning.

I saw an oral surgeon. She mentioned that I have pockets in my molars that MIGHT be causing the fecal odor. She noticed that my odor comes & goes. I mentioned my symptoms about dry tongue & burnt tongue feeling, white tongue. She suspects it's candida. I asked to have it tested in my mouth before she gives me medication but said she didn't SEE anything but will give mean antifungal & no guarantee that this will work.

I'm so cautious about taking meds bc of misdiagnosed & antibiotics that weaken my system.

I started exercising more & like you I get self conscious when I have to run errands & walk out side. I do get reactions but I feel better that at least w this doc visit I physically saw that my teeth MIGHT be causing the odor.

At times when I do smell my own fecal odor I just hold my breath of a second to not breath on ppl.

I've started a new routine in the morning & when I ask friends they tell me they don't smell it. So now my odor comes & goes through out the day & not constant:

Glass of water when I wake up

    chlorophyll

    aloe juice

pill to clean liver ( I don't have the name of product)

Goldenseal with vit e (take for only a week &

    Before meals)

probiotic 30 billion (once a day before breakfast)

    digestive enzyme

    No sugar

    breakfast

    Daniel,

For me I know I'm having small & large intestinal issues. L-glutamine powder heals the lining if the intestines. Research on Turmeric. I use more garlic gloves, oregano, parsley to season in my meals. The garlic has helped me more this week and EXERCISING.

Fiber powder w water ( at night but if home do it morning bc u have to drink lots of water).

Again, for thoes that have acid reflux things I've mentioned should be researched before taking.

I wish the doc would have sampled my throat for candidiasis bc its not in my blood but "might be in the throat".

Either way, I'm regulating my morning bowel movement to one instead of four times during the morning.

Hi everyone,  wow what a read.  I started my own post on here a couple of years ago as I've had tonsil stones since I was a kid.  Its made my life an absolute misery.  I've gone from boyfriends telling me I had bad breath to now my kids telling me.  Usually in front of someone.  Everyone is unique and has bad breath for different reasons.    Mine is due to post nasal drip, the surface of my tongue and tonsil stones.  I really believe that a huge part of my problem is I crave sugary products (this is often linked to candida/thrush that thrives on sugar).  My mouth is always dry and if I ever have antibiotics they cause me to have thrush!  So if your bad breath is from candida then taking antibiotics is only going to make it worse, well it does for me.  A lot of medications have side effects, sometimes this can be a dry mouth which makes bad breath worse,  It just a viscious circle!  I used to use Therabreath products, I got them from the USA but they are now available in the shops over here BUT it hasn't worked for me in a while.  To be honest with these sorts of products you have to keep using them otherwise the problem comes back and I just can't afford it.  I really think it would help me to give up sugar but I crave it because of my high candida levels.  Has anyone ever taken a really good probiotic?  Not just the ones you get in supplements.  There used to be a product called Threelac I used years and years ago but it made me throat sore it was so strong!  There must be an alternative.  In the meantime I am still hunting the product that is going to get rid of this horrendous issue we are all suffering from.  I have ordered another one from America called Profresh but to be honest I don't really have any faith in it.  Probably just the same as the others.   Got to try it though.   I also read elsewhere that Daktarin was great for clearing the tongue of bacteria and the yellowy coating on it but that tastes like it is full of sugar.  Keep talking guys, its nice to have someone to come and discuss this horrible condition!

Wow just recently I've notice my tongue leaving an awful smell in my mouth. I'm shocked when I realized it was me. Sugary stuff for me too. Maybe we can make the changes we needed and I think I've had this problem.for a long time without realizing it

:*( it's not easy but if I find something ill.let you know. Been swishing with coconut oil for 20 minute . Then gargling with warm water n baking soda .. what an ordeal

Hi Kjj, could I ask, how were your candida levels tested??

I saw an oral surgeon & suspects it's candida but "didn't see anything on my tongue to test for it".

I have not had sugar in months but a strick diet.I still get noticed by my fart/fecal odor that comes & goes when I breath out. It's truly embarrassing! Even I can't take it when I DO SMELL IT.

I hope we all find a solution soon.

Hi Chris, I didn't have them tested but I had colonic irrigation years ago and the nurse said that there was a lot of white bits floating round which signalled candida.   There is a great website which gives a whole page full of information about candida but I am not allowed to put the link on here so I have pasted the symptoms below.  I tick all the boxes below.  It doesn't mention bad breath or tonsil stones BUT I really believe its connected.  Bad breath comes from the build up on the tongue and the build up I believe comes from candida.

      Digestive complaints

      Recurrent thrush/cystitis

Cravings for carbohydrate, sugar, alcohol or yeast

      Hormone imbalances (PMS)

      Headaches

      Fatigue

      Depression/Anxiety

      Foggy thinking

      Itching / Skin problems

      Mood swings

I will try my best to cut down on sugary foods but its really hard.  Its like an addiction.  I think I am going to have to cut down as much as I can then use with a mouth wash. I cannot cut out sugar all together!  I've been reading a lot about chlorine dioxide mouthwashes and how they kill bacteria in the mouth. I don't believe bad breath comes from the stomach.  Again, this site won't let me link but google "activated chlorine dioxide".    A lot of companies have "stabilised chlorine dioxide", apparently that isn't anywhere near as good.

Hi Kjj, I have most of these symptoms. I'm still regulating my digestive issues & that is w eating completely healthy & no sugar for months.

I am looking into doing enema next & seeing a peridontist.

I will post if this helps. Thanks

Shine your phone's flashlight in the back of your throat to check for a white bacterial build up on your tongue. Also brush deep in the back of your mouth until you gag. If any mucus is back there it will come out. This cured me.

I hope you have found an answer by now. I wanted to ask if you suffered from heart burn or reflux/GERD as I'm well aware of the smell that can be caused by these problems. Something as simple as calcium carbonate (rennies etc...) can neutralise the acids and reduce the smell.

Another possibility is tonsil stones, these are little hard cheesy looking lumps of  food matter that gets trapped in the holes in the tonsils and putrifies. And they really stink! I got these a lot as kid and then started getting bouts of tonsilitis every few weeks until I had them removed aged 21.

Dr See cases of bad breath every day and there are lots of reasons for them, some indicate poor health or disease and others poor hygeine etc... but they are the best people to help you.

I've had a few experiences of burps that smelled very much like poo, my GP organised tests asap and did take me seriously, and although it was a little embarrassing, I felt much better once she and I were on the same page and able to do something about it.

    Best of luck

    Sarah

Hello Sarah, I'm wondering if your having acid reflux caused the poo odor?

I just found out that it's not that & testing fir oral Candida next week. I'm undergoing this for over a year.

If your doc ordered something to help find the answer to your situation please let me know.

      thank you,

      C

I think I may have found some relief. May be too soon to tell, but I feel different and my dry mouth/white tongue is going away.

Hi Daniel, so what method/product are you trying?  My Profresh has arrived, never used it before, used to use Therabreath.  My tongue coating has gone, my tonsil stones are appearing more often but there are a lot smaller so I think the mouth wash is breaking them down.  The Profresh instructions INSIST you scrape your tongue twice in the morning and at night, so not sure whether its this that is clearing my tongue or the product.  Let us know what you are doing. Thanks!

First off I'll tell you what I've been doing these past 4-6 months, but I think it's what I recently started doing few days ago too. So these past months I eliminated sugar out of my diet, except for fruits, honey and probiotic yogurts. I've been taking digestive enzymes and also mega dosing on vitamin C(6000mg a day). I also drink raw apple cider vinegar 3 times a day(one teaspoon on water each time). So I've been doing that and still had dry mouth and oral thrush that came and go and nasty tasting mouth in morning. But just a few days ago I bought some raw sauerkraut and been taking 1 tablespoon before bed and right when I wake up. I also use Th***breath toothpaste. Really make sure you get far in the back of your tongue where it's almost in your throat to where it makes you gag, I don't think I ever use to reach far back enough. Then I started using hydrogen peroxide/water for oral rinse. One last thing, which is important...don't stress! I know that was an issue for me because when people got around I would stress and anxiety would kick in and madey mouth dry and I would worry all day and it got worse. Do what you need to, I justentally thought positive and told myself I don't care if I smell and laughed inside. So lately I noticed my breath doesn't smell like crap in the morning, my mouth doesn't seem as dry and my thrush is going away. I'll repost in a week or so to keep you updated and I'll see if I get any people reactions. Oh, make sure you floss real good with floss dipped in peroxide and water! There's usually a single tooth that gets smelly after awhile. Well not tooth, but one hap between tooth,

Hi Daniel, are you eating any sauerkraut or making your own? And probiotics only from yogurt? Or a number, like 6 billion?

      Thanks for your input.

Wow.  I really need to cut out sugar but I am definitely a sugar addict and I think that is what is responsible for this constant coating on my tongue (which leads to bad breath).  I keep thinking about cutting it out, but never "find the right time".  I will start cutting down.  Due to take the vinegar straight or do you mix with water?   Hydrogen Peroxide - isn't that what they put in hair dye?  Chlorine Dioxide is the ingredient in Profresh that I am using and that smells bleach like.  Wonder if they are similar?  To be fair the Profresh (and tongue scraping) is doing a great job but I think cutting down on sugar is going to help me even more.  If I'm honest, I think I'd resigned myself to having bad breath forever but this forum is giving me some hope.  Just wish someone would invite a cure but its going to be a matter of a daily routine, which is fine if I find one that suits me.  Thanks for the tips Daniel.

I'm buying raw sauerkraut(unprocessed with live cultures). I've tried making my own, but I find it quite difficult and time consuming. You should find a raw form at any health food store. Raw sauerkraut has more probiotics than the pill form, by 10X the amount! So, I stopped buy thy expensive probiotics that seem to do nothing.

Cutting out simple sugar completely is probably the best thing you can do at this moment. I love sugary stuff just like anyone, but I haven't eaten it in months and I think it had contributed to my oral thrush, because sugar supercharges fungus! Whenever I had a sugar craving I would eat raw honey, not only does it contain antibacterial benefits, it has natural sugars. I usually mix raw honey and good probiotic yougurt(plain flavor) and the taste is wonderful.

And yes, the peroxide people use on cuts. It should stay 3%, you can buy it anywhere. I usually mix almost half and half, just a little bit more water. I rinse with a cap full and then gargle with another cap full making sure it reaches way in the back of my tongue.

Its going to be tough!  I've read people who suffer from thrush crave sugar because the fungus needs the sugar so what you are saying definitely makes sense.  Just a shame my daughter has made the most delicious brownies today!  Problem is I havent had caffeine for 22 years and the only buzz I get is from chocolate and sugar.  Will start Monday.  I need to shift this bad breath problem and this is going to help. Thank you.

Thanks Daniel, I will look for unprocessed sauerkraut. I purposely ate Oreos & ice cream last night bc I had an ENT appointment today. He finally smelled my bb & did a cotton swab to test for bacteria & fungal in my mouth. I get results in three days. I also have a second opinion & waiting for this results next week. Most of all I'm glad these docs are finally smelling the odor & testing me. Before they kept dismissing my year long saga.

Daniel I have suffered from all the same issues and tried just about everything to fix it. I'm not sure how to use this item or reach you but I'd like to pm and share what I have found so far.
