Breath smells like faeces (Poo)

Posted , 379 users are following.

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

I have a permanent sore/lumpy sensation in my throat but doc/specialist can't find anything wrong. I am convinced this is linked to my smelly breath. I also have a salty taste in my mouth a lot of the time.  I have tried a lot of the suggestions from other users, such as tongue scraping, oil pulling, B6 vitamins, B12 vitamins, Zinc, probiotic drinks, using bicarbonate soda to make a mouthwash, etc etc.  You name it, I have probably tried it.  I have been to the dentist and hygenist and my oral health is fine.  I eat healthy now and I don't drink or smoke but I have noticed I get the odd one or two little tonsil stones which I think can be caused by eating dairy? I hardly eat dairy products other than the splash of milk in my coffee but I thought I would try giving up having milk in my morning coffee seeing as I have tried everything else.  This lead to giving up coffee as I read that gives you bad breath (though I wasn't really convinced my two cups of instant coffee would really make any difference).

Anyway, I don't know whether it is in my mind or what but I find it has really helped with the smelly breath!  the salty taste has diminished too. I just thought I would share this with you all in case it helps someone. I know having bad breath ruins your life and I pray that I can get rid of mine for good eventually.

Hi Wendy, Thank you for this. I don't drink milk or diary, coffee, eat healthy but still have this.

I am following up w docs & want to find out what this is.

Hi, what you have is called tonsil stones or tonsiliths Once in awhile I will get that taste in my mouth and I gently use the end of my toothbrush to push my tonsils up. Almost always a white or brownish stone will appear you can then cough it out or gargle.

look up tonsil stones or tonsiliths removal and there is tons of info on the net.

sometimes you will have more than one, I removed three at one time before and after had wonderful breath. They will come back every so often.

what it is, is food particles and bacteria caught in your tonsil holes. It starts to rot and emits a poop smell/flavor or the essence of someone with really bad teeth. I am very clean and hygienic and I was horrified to cough one out one day and it was like huge poop smell in a tiny package.

i go back and forth being vegetarian and vegan. Dairy makes it much worse and more often I've found.

    Hi all,

I received one swab mouth bacteria result. Those are normal.

Today I had sonogram of main organs that may cause BB. I get results tmrrw.

The technician noticed my BB & she also had the same ordeal over a year & with testing it was related to stress. She said she ate healthier, drank water with lemon, cucumbers and it went away. She used to have a dry tongue & back of her mouth as well.

Tmrrw, I follow up ENT & allergist for more testing.I'm glad I found docs that are helping me solve this iissue!

Thanks Chris.  Glad you are making progress.  I have found my mouth less sticky and more neutral tasting since giving up dairy but I still can't quit the sugar though I have cut down.    I am really going to try and cut down further, I just can't do it all in one go and I think that will really help my bad breath as I think mine is linked to candida.  The Profresh stuff is still working for me but I think if I cut the sugar that will be the real solution.

I think that's my case too. I've been through a great ordeal of emotional stress and has actually caused some anxiety and I noticed my mouth always dry. I guess I just need to try and relax, maybe get back into some meditation . Stress can throw off the balance of your oral flora and bad bacteria starts to overrun the food bacteria.

Hi Daniel, I believe stress can do many things to a body. My allergist also says that allergies can make your mouth dry. I'm still waiting for my oral candida swab results in two weeks.

in the mean time, I bought different probiotics & digestive enzymes. I'm also slowly adding more things that I stopped eating into my meal plans again.

I have a gastro exam in two weeks. I really think my stomach is not closing properly bc my BB is worse when I move, even walk. I exercise, bicycle and even take a train & any motion makes me have dry mouth.

I hope we all get answers & get well soon.

I started getting bad breath about 1 year ago and I just found out what was causing my bad breath, it was because of an impacted wisdom teeth. Getting it removed has made a big difference in my oral health. People no longer stray away from me when I speak to them, I'm glad I found my solution to my problem and hope others can get help!

If i were you I would visit a specialist. What I also tried was to brush my teeth with tea tree. I actually use tea trea for many things.. of course do not swallow it.

I had this problem, dentist could find nothing, a couple of years later, it turned out that I had really bad gallstones. Worth looking into. More a gastric problem than mouth hygiene. Prevention better than cure.

Hello all, my update after a year long of this health issue. My gastro mentioned that since I need to take more fiber. Eat more fruits/veg that contain fiber. It backs up & the odor you breath out. I have tested & seen specialists of all, 2/3 opinions, spent money, stressed out over not knowing the root cause.

I take probiotics morning & night. He mentioned yogurt again, lots of fiber. Although I eat healthy & drink plenty of water he mentioned fibet moving the intestines.

If you eliminate but not complete & have IBS see a good GI.

I am getting a stool test & waiting for results.

So far I want to help anyone going thru this. I have tested for

    oral candida ( don't have)

Test your stomach acid (I don't have acid reflux)

    No h plori (don't have)

    complete blood work & stds

sonogram of : liver, pancreas, gall bladder, kidney (these organs may produce bad breath)

    check your sinuses (cat scan)

money on a nutritionist (helped & months of cleaning out my system)

eat more home foods prepared at home. Healthy

    drink water

***always see a doc for consultation, we are all different bodies w different reactions to what we digest & breath the air around us

eat more healthy things that will move & GO THRU your intestines, get proper nutrients w vitamins too but ask your doc first before self medicating.

Reduce stress, exercise as much u can

do the hard work to get your body back in shape

    Rebuild gut bacteria

I'm trying to quickly point out the important

IN MY CASE it's intestines. It moves too slowly

Hey thanks I have the same issue were can I buy the stuff I need do I drink it every morning or how is the way to do it ?

Hi Miguel, if you have digestive issues & checked out everything else. My GI suggested probiotics in the morning, fiber, water, eating healthy, digestive enzymes, exercise.

It will not allow me to post brands.

I've had a trial by error basis w probiotics & digestive enzymes.

*I have a tiny hernia. Some specialists say it can contribute to bad breath. GI SAYS it doesn't.

Either way it's important to get a COMPLETE bowel movement otherwise "it backs up" producing gerd, acid reflux.

I have this exact problem my breath smells like someone passed gas and everyone looks around like what's that smell. I don't have friends because of it and I can't keep a relationship. I feel like my life has been cursed. I'm bright and intelligent. But, clam up and act dumb so people won't talk to me. I work in a customer oriented environment and most of the time I don't say a word to anyone not even co-workers.I stay in the house. I don't eat out anymore.I'm trying to stick to a vegan diet but it's hard as hell. I suffer from depression because of it. Everyday I want to commit suicide but, I try to hold out hope. By the grace of god I have health care and a full-time job. I'm going to and ENT doctor on the 22 of October. I am convinced that my post nasal drip is causing my halitosis. I researched online that there's a surgery called septoplasty that will get rid of the post nasal drip which saline flushes could'nt do so I have to take a surgical approach. I hope to get approved for this surgery. Don't know how much longer I can deal with this.

      Hi Dizzydae1,

I suffer from the same issue; the constant dirty looks, whispers & rude comments from co-workers have been very depressing; I've started seeing a christian therapist to help me make it through this difficult time. I'm a very clean person but I can't seem to figure out why this terrible smell is coming from my mouth. Ive been diagnosed with GERD and had the surgery to stop the acid from coming up my esophagus; Ive had my tonsils removed as well but to no avail....the horrible smell is still there. Ive started seeing a natural medicine doctor who's tested me for SIBO; the results were positive so now I've started a new treatment.....I'm choosing to believe in the power of God and I will be healed from this terrible disorder. I want you & everyone else that's suffering to believe and have faith in God's timing & healing.

      God Bless!

Hi dizzy, I've experienced everything you mentioned. We are human and many that don't have this say to go on w life but I tell you, although not easy, I continued to find answers. I hope you get your root problem with your GI. Stay positive bc you are getting closer to getting tested.

My GI SAID to take more fiber, yogurt, probiotics to move things. Otherwise things back up & I breath this odor out.

Go to your GI and ask if you have h. Pylori, get tested for acid reflux, silent acid reflux, stool tests for candida, parasites, e coli.

test for organs that may cause bad breath: liver, gallbladder, kidneys.

Blood work on everything, including if you are vitamin deficient.

It's not an exact answer because we are different.

I narrowed out certain things and after more than a year I found out I have a hernia, stomach moves up to my chest, e coli in my stool. I'm calling my primary and national centers (were ever you live) to research.

Hello Heather, I spoke w my GI and mentioned certain things but nothing on gerd surgery. May I ask, what is the name or details about your surgery on gerd bc my GI said to just take probiotics. ..

Also, I get hungry an hour after I eat. Have you experienced that at all?

      Thank you,

      Christina

You get hungry one hour after you eat? You must be eating too much Chinese food! Haha

Sorry, I had too..it made me laugh when I read that and they do say that laughter is the best medicine!

Hang in there, your situation sounds just like mine. I too have a customer based job and I get in a bad mood and very irritable dealing with customers because of my bb. Also, it's hard to relax when I see my daughter because I'm around her mother and I just get so self conscious and so the only time I can relax is when I'm at home by myself, which is what I'm mostly doing these days if I don't have to work. I'm trying to relax more and just not care because worrying and behind stressed in a daily and hourly basis gets to me mentally and physically and I think it makes my bb worse!

Hi Daniel, I haven't had that in months! But we can test & see who can go to the bathroom first after eating that! Lol

I eat healthy and enough but somehow I'm always hungry after an hour. I'm told that It's my stomach acid. I don't have reflux.

I don't have sugar, dairy, bread.

after my GI, I'm told to have more fiber in my diet, probiotics, yogurt to move things along. Plus my stomach pushed into my chest but GI said it is not the train for my symptoms on IBS.

my problem is that I don't go completely in the morning & if backed up that's the odor I breath.. I hope to get better asap bc it's difficult to live with. I catch myself holding my breath if I'm close to many ppl. I know it's not my breath bc I get faces from me breath out.

I need to work again & docs don't have answers for my condition.

      Keep us posted.

      Hi Chris,

I had terrible heartburn & was prescribed a heartburn medication (N*x##m), I was on the meds for over 8 yrs but it didn't help so I seeked alternative options, through medical seminars, etc. I learned about a new procedure called the Linx system, I had the surgery last year & I'm so happy, because the acid doesn't come up my esophagus anymore. Now I'm dealing with the side effects of the meds, dry mouth, SIBO, etc. Through a Natural Medicine doctor, I've learned that a person shouldn't be on those meds for a long period of time. I now am battling with SIBO and an overgrowth of yeast, that my Natural Meds doc says can be reversed. Your excessive hunger may be b/c of a yeast or bacteria overgrowth....do you crave sugar, bread, pasta, Italian food....those were my cravings and I couldn't stop eating. My doc has me on the FodMap diet along with numerous natural supplements.....my sugar cravings are nearly gone; I'll keep you updated on how things turn out. It's not easy but you can get your good health back....just remember to stay positive & keep praying!

Hi Heather, thank you for taking time to respond. I'm reposting from something I said earlier.

I eat healthy and enough but somehow I'm always hungry after an hour. I'm told that It's my stomach acid. I don't have reflux. I've done anticandida diet for months & tested. I'm focusing on rebuilding my good gut bacteria & noticed probiotics, vitamins but bowel movement is slow. sad
