Breath smells like faeces (Poo)

Posted , 379 users are following.

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

Is there anyone here that suffers from chronic bad breath that tested negative for SIBO? Am talking about the type of bb that can be detected from far away, bb that won't go away by simply brushing or using mouth wash. My hypothesis is that our small intestines are overpopulated by bad bacterias, due to several factors. Two of which is the lack of stomach acid and the over use of antacid etc.

Hi Andrew, my bb is detected from far away. I eat healthy for months, drink only water & I have this BB. I've tested for many things.

In my case, my GI said that I need daily more fiber to have a complete bowel movement. Probiotics, yogurt otherwise things back up & I breath this odor out.

ENTS kept telling me I had gerd, reflux took meds but didn't help. Then GI tested me for silent reflux & don't have it.

Hey Chris, It could be possible that you have Laryngopharygeal reflux(lpr) otherwise known as Silent reflux. I have this problem but I don't get heartburn. Hence the name Silent reflux. I sometimes have a bitter taste in my mouth, excessive throat clearing, hoarseness and mucus draining down the back of my throat. If you have similar symptoms it could be possible that your silently suffering from LPR. Google LPR and do a little research on it.

Disregard my post.... I forgot you mentioned being tested for Silent reflux and don't have it.

Leaky gut is an umbrella term which SIBO is included. I wonder if I can get prescribed medicine for this if I just ask my doctor? I mean last time I saw I told her it was my gut, but she prescribed me nystatin, which didn't do anything, it's more for oral Candida, which is just a symptom of a gut issue.

    Hi all,

My stool test came back w e.coli but my GI said that the test is extra sensitive & that he noticed many of his patients are having this as well.

he assured me that none of my symptoms is from e.coli. then prescribed a med for my IBS, constipation. I was having lots of pain under my right rib & my primary did a sonogram. Told me if this GI can't help, then for him to forward me to someone that will

The odor is still there but not as much. I'm only on second day. I will post in a few days.

I can't wait to get back to work. I was dropping off resumes. I quickly meet w the person hiring & hopefully didn't notice the odor I breath out. They will let me know.

I hope everyone is doing well!

      Hi Chris,

I think we found a breakthrough. Try eating all gluten free foods. Don't cheat tho and just eat gluten free. I have been eating gluten free for 3 days now and it was incredible. My co workers were no longer holding thier nose.

Give it a try! It might work for you. It works for me and Leah.

Remember tho all gluten free foods and no coffee.

Also avoid eating banana. Tips is if you are not sure of what your about to eat is not gluten free, don't eat it! Better safe than sorry. That's how I do.

      Good luck Chris!

Hi MJ, I don't eat bread or banana. When i had a gluten free diet & no coffee I still had the odor. I will try it. I have constipation even from eating healthy.

Do you have your tonsils?? Sure it's not tonsil stones?? You can't always see them in your throat. For many people they hide inside the tonsils. .. hopefully a solution other than surgery. It's dangerous operation for adults

I eat the same as you except for diet coke. I need something in the morning to physically digest thru my intestines, otherwise my constipation is worse.

I don't have tonsils stones (never did) & docs have checked. My tests come back & I am healthy except for hernia & e coli in stool.

Hi Ela, thanks but I don't have tonsil stones. Docs have checked. They used to be very swollen & even then I didn't have. My body must be fighting an infection. All my tests come back that I'm healthy except for hernia& e coli in stool.

I eat healthy but always belly swollen, constipated, IBS. ...

My GI gave me a med for IBS. so far I'm on day three. The odor I still breath out but not as bad.

I'm also looking for work, I haven't been able to find work bc of this.

You can have eggs in the morning.. If you are in the UK there is a gluten free shop there. The lady who discover this is from the UK. I am in US. Please

I am like you, done everything, spent money on doctors, specialist but dr can't help.

Same here. I didn't eat gluten for months and couldn't tell any difference. I'm so glad it worked for you guys though.

Daniel have you also eliminated sugar?

My GI is giving med for IBS constipation. Have you been diagnosed with anything?

    • Posted

      I don't eat sugar.

I was tested for h pylori and that came back negative. I was actually reading on Celiac Disease and I'm starting to honk that might be it. When it comes to digestive disorders, there are many and a lot of them have similar symptoms. Basically on celiac disease though is just cutting out gluten, that will help with symptoms, but the disease itself is not curable. But I've went so long gluten free and it never helped, but also read it can take months to years for left over gluten to get out of the system.

      Who knows....

Daniel, thank you for sharing that. I was tested for those I will ask my allergist on gluten being an issue.

I think you mentioned leaky gut before. I will ask my GI is I am diagnosed properly.

Also stress/anxiety can be strong factors. I've ben relaxing more & mood better not sure if its my intestinal meds.

I was reading on serotonin & ox ycoten that the body creates & related to intestinal, digestive receptors. We might not be creating enough. Look into that.

Leaky gut is an umbrella term, so celiac disease, h pylori, SIBO, Candida overgrowth..etc all fall into the Leaky Gut Syndrome.

That's another reason I think it's celiac, because "life changes" that cause chronic stress/emotional stress can trigger celiac disease and that makes perfect sense in my case because that's when I realized my bb.

I know that's why doctors have a hard time with the leaky gut issue. It's difficult to pin point exactly what you have and they just don't know much about it and they won't admit to it so they just say "it's this, or that and here take these pills..not working?...okay, take these..."..lol..hence 'practicing medicine'.

You are right. We can't give up on our bodies we'll get the answers
    • Posted

I agree with you Daniel. It takes time for our body to heal. Maybe I just got lucky for not eating gluten and saw the changes right away! Tho I forgot to mention that I am also taking LGlitamin, chlorophyll and oregano pills along with being a gluten free.

I strongly advise gluten free and take L glutamine. Please try it.
    • Posted

I take L-glutamine and I don't eat gluten. In the past I've slipped here and there on the gluten and was more focused on staying away from meats and sugars, but this time around I'm going to focus more on gluten. I think I'm just going to eat steamed vegetables, beef broths, fruits and probably nuts.

I would like to add something interesting.

First off I've always had regular bowel movements, but my bowel movements always looked different. I was reading about healthy looking bowel movements and what they should look like and I was reading up about how food digest and simple ways to improve digestion. Well...I've always known I ate fast and probably didn't chew up my food properly before swallowing. So, I decided to make sure to chew very well, like my food is to mush so this wouldn't overwhelm my digestive system, since I believe my gut is the issue. Anyways, after a week of doing this, I notice my bowel movements are healthy ones now and they are consistently the same. If you don't know what you poo should look like, go check it out!

My bb is still here of course, but hey, it's stil progress! I was just amazed how something so simple like chewing up your food food could change something else.

It's so horrible. I don't even know when it's bad.. so distressing I'm sorry you are dealing with this also sad

I'm sorry anyone has to go through this.

I'm positive this is temporary for all of us..just a matter of time.

Some fruits and vegetables triggers BB. Citrus and Brussels sprout makes my BB worst
    • Posted

Hi Ela, I also can't tell when it's bad. At times I feel confident about my breath but get looks from ppl like I'm a dirty person when I know I'm not. At least two docs finally smelled my BB. I also glad for this blog bc the other docs made me think I was "too sensitive" about this issue. They are not the ones living thru this.

      Thanks. I've noticed the same.

Had anyone noticed if their breath or what they breath out smells like cheese or mold?

I note what I eat & very strick but notice theses odors as well. It's always worse in outside air vs. Indoor air.

I wonder if our sinuses has something to do with this?
