I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

It's incredibly sad to read about other people's experiences. One of the tragedy of this condition is that you have to rely on other people's often rude gestures to know that your breath is smelling because I have never in my entire life smelled it myself, so it is impossible for me to monitor it, in order to do anything that could help. Many people are ignorant about this condition and because it only affects such as small minority of people (most peoples bad breath is due to poor oral hygiene) it's impossible for it to be related to my teeth and gums when everyone else (my ex-husband and kids spend about 4 mins brushing their teeth and don't have this problem and I sometimes spend more than 20 mins and still is said to have poo breath, so for those who don't not understand this condition, please stop referring to anything that may be due to cleaning the mouth... It appears to be an unknown condition and if it is not well known or only affects a few people the medical professionals tend to deny that it, although my doctor recently, for the first time, explained that it is fermentation of feces in the colon emitting a type of smell coming-up the gastrointestinal system, but it appears not to be a well known condition... I feel so exhausted living with this condition, and it breaks my heart when I read some of the other people's experiences with this condition. Unless we talk about it, ignorance will continue to prevail and others will continue to see us a dirty, stinking individuals rather than victims of a hideous medical problem...

I agree with you completely. But i am glad you have children at least. I really really want to get married and fall in love but as long as i have this condition (poo breath)  will never meet anyone. And that hurts deeply. Sadly i know my legacy ends with me. I have so much to give to the world but my destiny has been robbed from me. I wish i could help people and help myself cos the doctors and dentists wont. Stay strong people and know that i am with you always..until the end of time

I would like to suggest that you read AcesUp contribution to this blog carefully and try and deal with this problems yourself because as we know from experience neither doctors or dentist seem able to help. Try looking at your diet and use probiotics and feel that you have the power to reverse this awful condition... Good luck...

Understand this. The only possible reason for anything to smell bad is because of bacteria, correct? "Bad" bacteria gives off a hideous odor, as we all know. So what is the only logical explanation to get rid of the bad bacteria? To ingest as much "good" bacteria as possible, each and every day.

My last post explained exactly how to do that.

So if you haven't tried eating fermented foods and ingesting a potent probiotic supplement, I urge you to do so immediately. If you don't at least give it a shot for at least a month, then you are your own problem. Quit thinking about doing it and just DO IT.

I agree it is caused by bad bacteria. I have tried probiotics, but it was difficult to monitor whether it made any difference or  not, but I will be trying it again...

The most potent probiotic on the market is VSL3. Don't waste your time with others. The brand Pearl and Align are great for normal bodies but we are different. We need a much more potent amount than 5-10 billion. VSL3 has up to 800 BILLION bacteria per serving. 400 Billion is available to you right now on their website and on Amazon but 800 billion has to be prescribed. Try the 400 billion for a month along with eating as much fermented food as possible and you WILL see a change.

This sound like a great suggestion. I will definitely try the VSL3 probiotics and fermented food.

    Thank you!!!!

    Hi there,

I am interested to know if your problem with poo breath ever returned after the appendix removal. You are the only one I have ever heard mention appendix as a possible cause and it is very interesting because of the pain in the side you speak of. Does anyone else with the poo breath problem have that symptom?

I've read many of these posts and disagree with a lot of them. I have had this problem for years with no luck in curing it. I have had several sinus infections and because they are almost impossible to cure no matter how long you're on antibiotics or nasal sprays. I thought the horrible smell was from my mouth but it has nothing to do with the inside of my mouth itself. The smell is from the mucus that drains or suppose to drain down the back of your throat except mine does not. It collects and dries at night time and by morning smells like hell. I use an herbal spray to soften soit starts to move then I find myself spitting a hundred times in the sink until most has drained it's disgusting! I stay away from anything which contains salt solution as it dries your nose out plus the mucus takes on the smell of the solution. I recently found a product called Sinna at the health food store which prevents the mucus from taking on that nasty salty taste that makes you gag. This is for chrinic sinusitis and found it has helped restore the walls on the inside of my nose which were always raw. It losens the mucus and helps to drain and eliminating that smell which we all know is bacteria from a sinus infection you can never completely get rid of. I will be seeing a plastic surgeon to see if fixing my deviated septum will help my sinuses drain properly to prevent the buildup.

If you think your problem stems from a deviated septum, you are most likely wrong. Search for "lip trainer blocked nose" and click on the first result. Along with potent probiotics, I use that tool four times a day and it has improved my breathing and drainage dramatically. Have you read my posts on probiotics? I had recurring sinus infections too and once I started taking probiotics seriously, the odor went away pretty quickly (within a few weeks). You have to constantly be flooding your bloodstream and gut with probiotics. Our immune systems are weak when we have recurring infections and ongoing odors. At least start eating fermented sauerkraut to prove to yourself that your smell is due to a bacterial overgrowth. Anybody who smells has a bacterial problem. There is no other way around it. There are millions of people who have a mucus problem but they don't stink. Why? Because they have more good bacteria than bad.

I have not taken probiotics for a while but I will try them again. I will also search "lip trainer blocked nose" as well as pick up some sauerkraut today. I'll try anything! I thought perhaps because the mucus seems to get stuck and it takes on the smell of all the foods I eat it is simply a drainage problem. When I eat garlic especially I get up the next day and feel sick to my stomach when I try to clear my sinus and the mucus slowly begins to drain in fact I have actuall thrown up a couple of times in the middle of the night because it is so disgusting my gag reflexes kick in. I do find though that if I can completely clear them which I sometimes can with a product called Xclear also from the health food store my breath does not smell at all but the cycle then begins all over again. Thanks very much AcesUp. Curious, what do you do for a living are you in the medical profession?

Sorry for the slow reply. It sounds like you might have a swallowing problem that could force food up into your nasopharynx. Search for "Janik Procedure Number 1" in G and read the first result.

Foods can get stuck between the nose and throat and start to rot which will obviously cause all kinds of bad smells. They aren't noticed by you because while chewing the food, it has already turned into a liquid state, so the remains are washed up on the walls of the nasopharynx, which sit there indefinitely, causing all kinds of problems, not just bad breath. Sinus problems, voice problems, ear problems, etc. Gross, huh? The writer of the article says to eat something dark, like a few Oreos. Rinse your mouth out several times, then "hack" some phlem out of your throat/nasopharynx and spit it into the sink. If you see food debris in your spit, then you have a swallowing disorder, which could very well be the cause of your bad breath.

Turns out that I have this problem! But for some reason I have always hacked up phlem until it was clear over the years. But if I eat something and don't brush/gargle afterwards, then I used to always get bad breath. This was most likely the cause! So interesting.

I am not a doctor or anything. I have just researched this topic for the last six to seven years and have learned quite a bit on the subject.
