I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

This forum has been really helpful to me too - in making me feel not alone. Thank you. I wanted to report that my BB is going away. Mine was related to my oral health - I've always brushed and have flossed too but in the past 3 years I had to get 3 crowns and a tooth implant because of a bike accident I had. And I started smelling a smell like poop coming from 2 teeth when I flossed. But my dentist said that my gums were healthy and there was nothing she would recommend. (!!!) What the dentist didn't tell me was that the crowns and implant needed a water irrigator - to make sure the space between the gums and the teeth were cleaned thoroughly. I just read a very short book that was immensely helpful about the Keyes method. It says that BB is caused by bad bacteria and people with healthy mouth bacteria don't have bad bacteria present. It says that salt would kill that bacteria, so does oxygen (because it's anaerobic) and hydrogen peroxide will bring oxygen to it. And it's acidic - so baking soda is a base and will make the environment hard for the bacteria to thrive... So I've started to use salt and baking soda (I didn't use hydrogen peroxide because I'm not sure that that's healthy for teeth because my mom said that that makes your teeth porous and susceptible to being stained). The book is called Understanding Gum Disease. I'm so angry at my dentist - because she thinks there's no problem but bad breath going on for a year is a problem. It's not normal. And it's a sign of gum disease. Does she want me to wait until I have another symptom of gum disease? So now I'm going to look for a dentist who is trained in the Keyes method. There were so many good points that I got from this book. I can't recommend it enough.

i agree... i believe that the majority of dentists are not equipped to deal with biome issues... they drill, pull, scrape, and prescribe antibiotics.... which is the catalyst to our problem. dental work can be breeding grounds for the surviving bacteria of a antibiotic treatment to thrive and create the ultimate resistant BB producing biome that ails most of us and that you may have avoided. I strongly believe that it is a momentum type thing. If the bacterial problem has progressed too far, it has gained too much momentum and the bacteria is highly resilient. If you have a lifetime of healthy oral biome, the momentum will allow those to be almost impervious to BB-for a while..

That's probably true, Jason - about the microbiome. Have you read about gum disease? The book that I read talked about finding a periodontist who is trained in the Keyes method and who uses a special kind of contrast microscope to look at the live bacteria in your mouth. They can judge and monitor the progress of the issue and if it's going away or not. And the dentist can you a protocol. I have had a turn around with salt and baking soda and hydrogen peroxide but I'm still looking for a periodontist to do the microscope part.

      All the best.

I'm going through the same thing and this horrible poop smell hasn't left me since I was 16, I lost lots of friends because of BB, I can't get a job because of BB, I can't even talk unless there's a very good distance between me and the person I'm talking to. I recently noticed that the poop smell is coming from my nose too, it has taken over my life completely. I can't afford tests as I can't get a job because of the BB. I brush my teeth twice a day and avoid foods that can trigger this smell but its not helping.

HI EVERYONE, I'd like to share my experience of getting rid of bad breath.

Most people here are pretty self aware I believe. best oral hygiene and all that. My key to success was , after nine years I found out, to alter the microbiome. It's quite a process and I've tried so many way that it's hard to tell which worked. but my guess is "betadine throat spray". Basically i tried everything accessible that claim to kill germs, but my success came quickly after i tried this. So, everyone should give it a shot!

I wasn't able to speak in a car because of bad breath, but now i can have a discussion with another person over one restarant menu.

the process is mentally hard. no one seem to understand how one can have bad breath even within 15 seconds after brushing(i can just detect it by breathing normally but with mouth closed uvula elevated). But stay strong and keep trying! the rebuild of microbio system won't happen over night, it just takes time. BUT don't forget to use Interdental brush when your gum line is simply recessed to a point that floss just isn't doing enough. the smell from germs between teeth and gum is terribly horrifying but also undetectable by one's self.

I have the same problem. I used to get tonsil stones and I did not like the smell of them, so I had them removed. However, that did not stop the BB, perhaps only allowed me to smell the odour even more. I've tried various suggestions and went to an ENT but to no avail. Has anyone noticed any link to his/her ear? I've noticed that when I clean my ear with hydrogen peroxide the scent is similar and the discomfort in the top-right and top-left of the throat (just below the neck) subsides. I am not sure whether it has any change on my breath; but I am wondering if the issue may have to do with a leakage from the connection from the ear to the mouth, which then settles at the back of the throat? Has anyone gotten an ENT to check that out?

We have exactly the same observation, I think the smell is coming from the canal that connects the ear to the throat. I see a yellowish color leaking from that canal down to my throat and the smell from my ear smells the same as my breath especially when I eat sugary foods. I think sugar is feeding the bacteria from that leakage that enhances the smell. I think we should consult an ENT specialist.

i have just gone through some more treatments for my bb. i tested negative for TMAU but was put in a course of antibiotics following a course of riboflavin. nothing worked. my specialist pointed me in the direction of a study carried out in the Netherlands about genetic bad breath and tests carried out on mice. its very interesting. im now thinking this is what i have. you should all google the research. no cure for it as yet but at least its being acknowledged.
