Hi. Does anyone with GERD has the experience of not being able to take a deep breath. I often feel that I need to take a deep breath. But most of the times I can't .

Are you sure that this isn't anxiety related. I had the same thing when I was young but it went away..

yes I think a lot of us get that,I was told by a clinician that if you find taking a deep breath in difficult it is GERD, but if its a deep breath out you can't do its Asthma, that is why so many people get diagnosed with asthma when in fact they have gerd.

It can also cause coughing and sinus problems.

Yes! Since this GERD started...I havent felt like my breathing is normal. When I breath in my chest feels a bit heavy. That's the best way I can describe it. My doctor told me to drink mylanta after meals. It does seem to smooth me a bit but doesn't cure anything. I'm also trying to avoid too much sugar. Seems to be a real trigger for me. I was also told to take a higher dose of Nexium daily so I have been doing that for a month now. Doesn't seem to be getting rid of it. I plan to tell the doctor when I go back.

Hello that's anxiety and your panicking.take deep breath through nose out through mouth .put some relaxing music and candles and luke warm bath will help with anxiety and calm your muscles and nerves down most importantly don't let your mind play wonders keep busy all times also raise bed 10 inches head side only walk 30 minutes after meals will help. I got same problem I have to eat strict diet and got sovere burning in chest behind breast bone even now in bed suffering I got hiutus hernia ulcer and Gerd. Hope you feel better soon

This can deinately be associated with gerd. I had a test recently where it was identified that the acid was going into my lungs and up to my nasal passages. So maybe some further investigations into you problems would be an advantage to see what treatment options there are for you

It could be vocal chord dysfunction. It mimics asthma. It's exacerbated by gerd or lpr. I have it and it's my main symptom.
