I have all the normal symptoms. .neck arm and upper back pain plus the hand and foot cramping and feel a loss of muscle control when walking .. (if i go below 20mg prednizone a day) .. But i have added difficulty breathing and increased nasal mucus from October till March or April (I live in Northeastern Pa USA) .. Medical History: I had a massive infection about 20 years ago which damaged my lungs heart and kidneys thyroid and now the parathyrouds .. but my breathing has worsens during the colder months since the Fall of 2011 and my RA said he thinks I've had PMR for at least that long .. I think it is because of my PMR doctir isnt sure .. any comments on same symptoms welcomed .. ???

Hello Jeanne, I have reactive airway disease since exposure to a floor sealing solvent in 2010. My symptoms are sudden chest tightness after exposure to cold and specific allergens. It differs from asthma in that I don't cough and seldom wheeze. When I use the rescue inhaler some phlegm comes up- in winter I might use guafenesin. I was on a steroid inhaler which didn't really abolish it. Once I went on prednisone I went off the steroid inhaler and my symptoms were about the same. Exposure to my Christmas tree and another very old corn plant seemed to trigger that tightness. The rescue inhaler did the trick after I aired out the house and dumped the plants. The tightness though surprised me,though, because I hadn't felt that tight in a long time. I have ongoing issues though from scoliosis restrictive lung disease. I saw the pulmonary yesterday and she said my lungs were very clear. This is my pattern

added to that I have post nasal drip and we are trying a steroid inhaler which seems to help where pred doesn't. Nasal irrigation does get allergens out. Our humidity is very low from central heating so I sleep with a hot air humidifier.

Doctor got back to me and prescription was written wrong .. I'm to use 20mg for 2 weeks and then try to go to 15mg for 3 to 4 weeks then taper by 1mg every 2 weeks or so until I get to 10mg .. stop there untill he sees me again .. I can breath better already .. no pain and mucus is better also .. I'm sure the cold and dampness effect the PMR symtoms as they are worse ..
