Breathless

Hi everyone, Just returned from a two day break with my cousinin Blackpool. This was arranged before I was diagnosed with PMR and couldn`t let her down as she`s had such a lot of heartache recently.

Howver I`m glad to be back as i found it very heavy going. Thanks to the steroids(27.5mg) I didn`t sleep more than two hours total each night, cramp and generally high. Used to that when I`m on them for COPD exacerbations but the breathlessness when walking was dreadful. Do any of you find this or should I be looking at my lung condition ? All the best Shebob :?:

I'd get it checked out, Shebob. The high dose of steroids could be masking something else going on - it's happened to me. Prednisolone hid the late-onset asthma I developed for almost two years.

I believe both PMR and Pred can make you breathless anyway, also of course you were away from home and if you're like me, almost anything out of the norm can set it off. It might have been the ozone or possibly the candy-floss?? (wish I could make these little icons work; I'd have put in a wink there!). Hope you enjoyed your stay - have you a photo of you wearing your kiss-me-quick hat?

Love from Nefret, who's feeling mischievous today!

Hi Nefret !. Can`t blame the candy floss but maybe the dark chocolate fruit and nut! Off to my third appt with ENT specialist tomorrow (just what bit of me is working properly ??) Sent to him a year ago when I started having awful pain in my head when I coughed or laughed and had lots of steroid nasal drops which had no effect whatsoever but since PMR diagnosed a couple of months ago and put on steroids that`s gone so I expect him to say Cheerio. Haven`t been told it`s temporal arteritis so perhaps it`s just another facet of PMR. Shebob

    Hi there fellow sufferers,

I too get out of breath with the steroids, I know I have put weight on but it is a different feeling of being out of breath, if you can understand. Just to put my shoes on some days takes my breath away.

What gets me is some people don't understand PMG and how you feel.

they say \"maybe you should loose weight, it would help your legs\", but the pain is not just in your legs it's in your neck, arms, hands and fingers. And the creeping feeling up your neck and the internal shaking. Sometimes I wonder if it is the steroids or the complaint.

Unless you have had it you cannot understand, that's why this site is so helpful to us sufferers.

So keep up the good work with the news.

Do hope the breathlessness is easing - it could just be the steroids as they do make you feel so exhausted on the higher doses and I feel that could manifest itself in a feeling of breathlessness. However, as Nefret suggested, it would probably be wise to get it checked out especially as you suffer from COPD.

Do hope the ENT appointment went well, and, as you say, it does sound as though those problems were caused by the untreated PMR (or the linked GCA) in view of the relief you found once on steroids.

You're a girl after my own heart with liking dark fruit and nut chocolate and it's making my mouth water just to think about it. I'm glad I'm upstairs on this computer and away from my supply! Lost a couple of pounds this week and have just bought an evening dress to wear to a 'do' in October :P , so I am not going to be tempted or the dress will have to go back!

Spammy - no, healthy people don't have a clue what we go through with PMR and although they say we look healthy, they can't SEE the pain can they. At least we all know what each other is going through and I'll always be grateful for finding this forum.

Yes, hope you are beginning to feel better now. When on a high dose of Pred I felt like something the cat dragged in, all over and everywhere, even though I was high as well.........horrid feeling.

Let us know how it goes! If you do get your chest checked out I'll be interested in the results.

Hi everybody, I`m wide awake again- been up since 2.15 am. I can`t even sleep during the day I`m so high. Anyway , ENT appt went as expected. Needn`t see him again as steroids taking care of head pain but he di d prescribe Daktarin for fungal pharyngitis- thrush- another nice side effect I always get from steroids !

They don`t do my oesophagitis any good either and doc thinks I may have a water infection !! So- I`ve now got- asthma, COPD, oesophagitis, pharyngitis,PMR, cystitis and a huge stomach !!

Ain`t life grand. Honestly though I am so grateful that there are worse things that I haven`t got. This site is such a help even if only to have a little moan to others who know how you feel.Keep positive folks. Life is good Shebob

I do get breathless and wheezy and never had asthma before. I know what you mean about a big round tummy but my face is like a moon, I also get tingling in my left hand finger tips. My eyes feel swollen and watery and if I glance to the left or upwards without moving my head I see double for a moment. I was diagnosed about 3 months ago;I was on on 20 and came down to 13 but back up to 15 now. I wake every couple of hours, my neck feels thick and I snore so badly that it wakes myself up amongs others so I think the snoring is causing my throat to sound hoarse. I also have a very dry mouth and get up for wees an awful lot - had check for diabetes and it came back clear.

    Are all those side effects?

Hi eap 217, Yes I have all those side effects you mention. I can`t pass a loo without using it and during the night I can go every half hour. Like you my eyes feel peculiar , watery and blurry. I guess we`ll just have to weather the storm. I`ve given up on bed again as you can see from the time 3.49 am. And I can`t even sleep during the day. Keep your chin up-at least having this \"club\" we know we`re not alone. It`s been agodsend for me. Shebob x
