breathless

I have always had lowish blood pressure. recently on my daily three mile early morning dog walk i have been becoming breathless on exertion( going up hills) I mentioned this to my GP who arranged a Treadmill assessmenmt which i have now attended. i exercised on the tradmill for two minutes and they stopped it due to my shortness of breath. my main concern was my blood pressure went up to 217/92 which i beleive is very high. what are the risks?

As long as your blood pressure went down after year treadmill was done but still I think it's very very high my blood pressure has been 200 over 110 and that was very high I had to take some extra blood pressure medicine you should be on blood pressure medicine that's probably why you were out of breath maybe you have developed some heart valve problem go to your doctor I'm sure you have because you were having a treadmill they will probably give you some blood pressure medicine and you will be okay maybe not advisable to do that heavy-duty walking

Cath, my advice from my experience would be to ask for referral for an echocardiogram. You might have a slight prolapse of a heart valve - possibly the mitral valve.

Very true my mitral valve is thickened causes my high blood pressure they said as long as I keep an eye on my blood pressure I will be okay you just have to have faith and do what the doctor say

Mine has a slight prolapse and I find hills and steps a real challenge. I also have very difficult-to-treat high BP. On my 8th different pill at the moment - one of the only ones that doesn't seem to give me nasty side effects but it isn't reducing my BP even at the doubled dose. Also have kidney disease and my consultant will probably add yet another pill tomorrow - aaargh!

Hi cath do you smoke, I would see what your GP or cardiologist says regarding you numbers and your shortness of breath before you decide what the problem is, as you were not struggling before it could have been something as simple as a respiratory virus, you should as a matter of course be referred for an echocardiogram, simple and non invasive and will give them a clear picture of any problems. Did they instruct you to not doing your normal routine.

    Try not to worry
